    Nicest hotel in the area

    rating22 Sept 2025

I really like this hotel. It's clean, the staff is friendly and it's located in the heart of Angra do Heroismo. I was allowed to checkin at 11am instead of the listed 3pm. That kept me from camping out in the hotel lobby trying to figure out how to start my vacation.

    AVOID AT ALL COST

    rating19 Aug 2025

Fire alarm went off several times during the night and again the next day. Reception told us it was a maintenance issue, and that neither maintenance staff nor the manager were available during the weekend and offered no solution. We had to find alternative accommodation, as a proper night’s rest is really the bare minimum one expects from a hotel. The hotel then refused our refund by email with a dismissive and unacceptable response. They said we had exaggerated by leaving the hotel, and since no other guest complained (doubtful) it wasn’t that big a deal. They even claimed the alarm might go off due to spray deodorant or a hot shower 🤷‍♀️ While waiting to complain, we discovered our case was not even the worst: another guest found women’s underwear in their bed. Shockingly poor standards for a supposed 5-star hotel – it really makes you wonder what scale they are using.

    Below expectations

    rating13 Jul 2025

No customer service. No one gives you a solution no one answer your complaints. The phone listed on the webpage does not work and after several trials, I found out that the fax number is the main number. No refunds even if you lost your flight. No empathy no solution. Please don't contact them towards email. Go to another prestigious or at least reliable hotel, no wonder why this hotel has below 4.0/5 points. Portugal is spectacular had great experiences in Lisbon, not the same in Terceira Island. Complained never responded. Expedia also is the worst service. Wont recommend this hotel if you need to contact them at all. Complained to Livro de reclamacoes and still no response.

What a scam!! 3 Star hotel, if I´m generous

    rating10 Jun 2025

During our recent trip to Terceira, we chose the Angra Marina Hotel, which at the time was the only hotel actively advertising itself as a 5 star lodging. The website photos appeared promising and matched what was being offered. Unfortunately, our actual experience was far from what we expected.Upon arrival, we were met with a discouraging start. Only one staff member was present at reception, engaged in a phone call for over 40 minutes. Despite three guests waiting, there was no acknowledgment of our presence, no welcome gesture, and no attempt to call for assistance. The condition of the rooms further compounded our disappointment. They were dirty, poorly maintained, and one of the rooms had a strong, unpleasant musty odor. Upon requesting a room change due to the smell, we were told it was not possible—even though the hotel was far from full. The best the staff could offer was to remove the offending chair, which they simply placed on the terrace.Breakfast the following morning was similarly substandard. The buffet offered no fresh items; pastries and baked goods were clearly pre-packaged and not freshly opened. The eggs were cold, with broken yolks and dirty trays, and the orange juice was from a carton, not freshly squeezed. When I raised concerns with reception, I received an astonishingly unprofessional response: “If you don’t like the eggs, we recommend you don’t eat them.”Later that day, we returned to find the removed chair still sitting outside and no replacement provided. One of the beds was damp and smelled of bleach. When I contacted reception again, the same staff member came to inspect the issue. Shockingly, she climbed onto the bed to sniff it herself, seemingly to determine whether I was being truthful. Only after this bizarre interaction did they agree to change the bedding. The hotel overall is in a serious state of neglect: cracked walls, rusted pipes, limescale-covered bathroom fixtures, torn or stained wallpaper, outdated televisions with non-functional remotes, and a general lack of cleanliness throughout the rooms and bathrooms.I don’t usually take photos of the places I review, but in this case, I made an exception. I took numerous pictures to ensure that readers can judge the conditions for themselves and so the hotel cannot dismiss my comments as untrue. The evidence speaks for itself.

We Enjoyed Our Vacation in April 2025

    rating03 May 2025

My wife and I stayed at the Angra Marina Hotel April 16-23, 2025. We flew Azores Airlines from Lisbon to Ponta Delgada to Aerogare Civil das Lajes arriving at 11pm. The cost for a taxi to the hotel was 22-25 euros. Confirm the price with the driver at the start of your strip. The entrance to the hotel is through the 8th floor which is located at the back of the hotel opposite the side facing the ocean. There is a pool and jacuzzi on the first floor which does not have a legitimate access to the marina side ground level. Our impressions walking into the hotel were positive, beyond our expectations especially given some of the reviews we had read. We felt good about our choice. We ate supper at the hotel twice during our stay, once because it was Easter weekend and there were places downtown that were closed. I had tuna in a sweet potato mash. It was tuna I've ever had. I believe we paid 25 euros for the meal and 10 euros for a bottle of Portuguese wine. The second supper was a beef dish. It was delicious. We are breakfast at the hotel everyday. We liked the selection and the quality. Eggs were poached or scrambled with bacon and breakfast sausage. Orange and apple just and coffee were also available. Our room was on the 7th floor facing the marina. It was a large room and in great shape. The major challenge was using the remote control for the lights because the labelling on the remote didn't seem to match the lights. Our balcony had ample space for 2 people with two chairs and a table. We sat out there often, having a glass of local wine and enjoying the view. We used the jacuzzi once. Be careful stepping into it because it can be slippery. It was warm but I would have preferred it warmer. No complaints, it was fine.Staff at reception were exceptional, very helpful and spoke perfect English. They helped us out on numerous occasions. The cleaning staff did great and we felt they did a great job on our room.We found that our thermostat didn't do much but having been there in April, we regulated the temperature by leaving the door open on the balcony. The staff in the bar were excellent, great for conversation and a wealth of information on the Azores and even Madeira. We visited there 3 times during our stay and every time we interacted with staff and enjoyed it.Keeping in mind that you exit from the 8th floor, you will walk downhill leaving and uphill returning and this may affect your stay. I enjoyed the uphill climb myself. I am in my mid-60s and in relatively good shape. If you are overweight and out of shape, you will need to do it in stages. The hotel does have a taxi service. We booked it to return to the airport when leaving. Exiting from the eighth floor you can walk to areas at the same elevation including to Supermercado Guarita - Angra Heroísmo - a large, well stocked grocery story that also carries beer, wine and spirits. It's about a 15 minute return walk 7-8 minutes each way but it is level walking. I looked at the fresh fish and meat at the butcher part of the store and I was really impressed with the store. We had an amazing week at the hotel. We appreciated the great service and enjoyed the food. The views from the balcony are stellar. The city itself is a gem. The island is well worth a tour. We had so many good meals. The quality of food is naturally great. I dreaded returning to what we get in North America. I felt so much better staying and eating in the Azores. I would stay at the Angra Marina Hotel again.
