Location

The hotel is situated at the north entrance to Vila do Porto, only 10 min from the airport and 5 min from the main town, making it the ideal spot to explore the Golden Island.

Facility

5 suites, 18 apartments and 64 double rooms are located on 4 storeys and can be reached by lift. The reception desk is open round the clock. Amenities include a baggage storage service and a safe. Wireless internet access in public areas allows guests to stay connected. The apartment hotel has a range of facilities for guests with disabilities. The hotel has wheelchair-accessible facilities. A variety of shops are available, including a supermarket. The grounds of the hotel feature a playground and a lovely garden. Additional amenities include a TV room and a playroom. Guests arriving by car can park their vehicles in the garage or in the car park. Further services and facilities include a 24-hour security service, room service (for a fee), a laundry service and a hotel shuttle bus. Rooms

Sport

Guests can enjoy a refreshing swim in the outdoor pool area. A short break or an entire afternoon on the sun terrace, which features sun loungers and parasols, is time well spent. There is a poolside snack bar as well.

Various dining options are available, including a restaurant, a breakfast room, a café and a bar. Catering options include bed and breakfast, half board and full board. A generous breakfast buffet, lunch and a comprehensive dinner buffet offer plenty of delicious variety. Special meals, including vegetarian dishes, are also available.

    Good value hotel outside of Ville do Porto

    Stayed for one night whilst visiting Santa Maria. The hotel is located a little outside of Villa do Porto with plenty of parking at the hotel, easy to access if you have your own transport, but a long walk uphill otherwise; I’d advise renting transport to get the best out of a visit to Santa Maria anyway. The hotel building from the outside looks more like a college than a hotel (with no sign over the entrance) but once inside check-in was quick and efficient.Although I visited at the end of the season there an event on the island so only apartments were available; this consisted of a large bedroom, bathroom and a sitting room with small kitchen area; clean and comfortable with good views of the countryside from the large windows. The bed was comfortable and the WI-FI and shower both worked well.No restaurant, but the bar area served a selection of tasty food (pizza, pasta, burgers etc), as well as both Azorean and Portuguese beers. Pleasant terrace area with a pool outside, Gym onsite (pay separately to use).If you are willing to accept a few quirks (understandable due to the remoteness of Santa Maria) this hotel offers a good base to explore the island at reasonable price, if you’re expecting a four-star luxury resort hotel you’re probably on the wrong island!     Very few of the hotel staff are welcoming or try to give a customer focussed experience. Upon arrival my daughters found two cockroaches in their bedroom and another one was cruising the corridor .The location, breakfast and swimming pool are nice .The bar staff we plainly rude the night of our arrival when we wanted to split the bill between families .I would not recommend this hotel.     Much Better than Other Options

    We first stayed at Hotel Santa Maria which was mediocre (see my review). It lived down to modest expectations (we read reviews before booking!) Then we moved to the top rated small homestay much famed for its legendary breakfast. We left the next day at 6am so never tried the breakfasts. The hosts were very understanding and refunded the additional 2 nights we had prepaid. In despair in the dreary dawn at Sao Larenco beach pondering our next move for our last two nights we got the last room here at Colombo. Arrival was like manna from heaven , both a much better location and best of all they let us check in before 11am allowing us to get some of the missed sleep from the terrible night. There is a router in the room with great wifi, and a fridge with freezer. Service is very friendly, the pool area very nice and lively, and breakfast MUCH better than Hotel Santa Maria (although surely not as grand as the legendary breakfast at the top rated homestay).     Nice and adequate hotel. The hotel is set in a good location to getting around. The staff were friendly and helpful . We had an enjoyable and lavish breakfast. Parking was free.     The quality of this hotel is going down.

    We stayed in this hotel for the 5th time over the years since 2016. The rooms have not been changed much and could use an upgrade. The services of the hotel went down every year. From a fully operational restaurant to no restaurant now. From a very good breakfast to a very bad breakfast now. Bad coffee (actually just brown water, from one of the coffee containers even cold brown water), cold scrambled eggs, bread was just whole grain buns, vertically cut in half, something that looked like croissants and white bread to be toasted. A very limited amount of fruit (apples and soggy watermelon), cups of yoghurt without fruit in it. Just the taste of fruit. The opening hours of the bar (no possibility to have lunch). The staff of the hotel however is very helpfull and friendly. The pool and the poolarea are great. And when the bar is open, the food you can get there is not bad at all. I have sent my experiences to the hotel management before writing this review.
