Location

The hotel occupies a 16th century fortress, which was built overlooking Horta Bay and was declared a national monument in 1947. From the hotel guests are able to enjoy breathtaking views of Pico Island as well as the famous harbour. Vulcao dos Capelinhos, Varadouro, Morro de Castelo Branco and Caldera are all just a hour drive from the hotel.

Facility

The hotel was built in 1567. 28 double rooms are located on 3 storeys and can be reached by lift. English-speaking staff at the reception are happy to assist guests at the reception desk round the clock. Check-in and check-out are available 24 hours a day. Valuables can be stored securely and conveniently in the safe. Wireless internet access (for a fee) allows guests to stay connected while on holiday. The hotel offers various facilities for guests with disabilities. The hotel has wheelchair-accessible facilities. A fireplace creates a cosy atmosphere. Everyday necessities can be purchased at the supermarket. A garden provides extra space for rest and relaxation in the open air. Additional amenities include a TV room, a playroom and a library. Guests arriving by car can park their vehicles in the garage (for a fee) or in the car park. Further services and facilities include a 24-hour security service, a car hire service, medical assistance, room service, a laundry service and a coin-operated laundry. Rooms

Air conditioning and central heating ensure that rooms maintain comfortable temperatures. Guests can enjoy the sea view from a balcony or terrace. All rooms are carpeted and include a double bed or a king-size bed. Extra beds can be requested. A safe, a minibar and a desk are also available. A direct dial telephone, a television with satellite/cable channels, a radio, a stereo system and WiFi (no extra charge) provide all the essentials for a comfortable holiday. Bathrooms are equipped with a shower, a bathtub and a bidet. For additional convenience, bathrooms also provide a hairdryer. For extra comfort in the bathrooms, guests are offered cosmetic products. Wheelchair-friendly rooms with wheelchair-accessible bathrooms are also available. The hotel has non-smoking rooms.

The outdoor pool complex includes a children's swimming area and is ideal for working out or just relaxing. Sun loungers and parasols are available on the terrace, where guests can enjoy a quick break or relax for hours. A variety of refreshing drinks await guests at the pool bar. At breakfast, guests serve themselves at the generous buffet. Various dishes can be ordered à la carte for lunch and dinner. Diet meals and children's meals can be prepared on request.     We stayed for 9 days as part of a whale watching trip with Whale watching Azores. From Rui at check in to Fernando at breakfast, to the housekeeping staff - a massive thank you and appreciation for your hard work. We had a wonderful stay. Our room was big and overlooked the harbour and Pico. Breakfast was really good quality and excellent service. When we checked in , we requested a kettle for the room and Rui immediately brought one with cups and saucers. Water is provided daily and the fridge is lovely and cold. We enjoyed a small white port every evening on our balcony before dinner.     Today I had breakfast at Pousada de Santa Cruz in Horta and the experience was excellent.Besides the spectacular views and the unique atmosphere inside the fort, the staff were very friendly and professional. The breakfast was very well prepared, with a great variety of options, excellent quality, and a strong focus on regional products, which really makes a difference.It is a very special and beautiful place with an amazing setting.     Working this time. That´s not the first time that I came to Faial to work. since the hotel that my company uses was full, I choose Pousada for staying, because I already stayed there during vacation time this year. This is simply an amazing place to stay, I just love them. To all the Staff - They are so nice. Breakfast is very complete, a lot of options.The room was so nice and clean.Thank you very much.     Superb pousada - when aren’t they ! A wonderful location on the waterfront in a converted C17th fort. To open the curtains onto our balcony to a picture perfect view of Pico volcano was the icing on the cake ! The room was spacious, bed comfy, balcony & chairs all kept spotlessly clean. The reception area, bar & restaurant all with interesting features. We had breakfast included in our booking & it was plentiful & fresh - once again with the views to Pico & its volcano. The breakfast manager was very friendly & we tried regularly to converse with our limited languages. We ate in the restaurant one evening & enjoyed a lovely local slow cooked meat meal. Plenty of other restaurants & the town sights are within 5/10min stroll. A particular mention & thanks to Rui on reception for helping us & booking taxis & trips - his English & knowledge was really good & we enjoyed just chatting to him in general about life in the Azores. Horta is a beautiful centre from where to explore the Azores.     We loved our stay here. The reception staff are so helpful. They put us in touch with a lovely family (Miriam and family) who provide a wonderful taxi service all over the island. They are the best place to go for any advice.Food was very good. But the best part was the amazing views from the dining room which looks out across the swimming pool to Mt Pico. The clouds change by the minute and the sunsets are fabulous. Take your camera. You can sit inside or out. You get the same view from rooms facing the harbour. Highly recommended!
