  More than a stay, a step back in time.

  Staying at Pousada Castelo Óbidos was truly magical. Arriving as the day-trippers drifted away, the village grew quiet and the castle felt wonderfully our own. From the warm welcome of ginjinha served in chocolate cups to candlelit dinner within ancient stone walls, every moment felt steeped in history. Our room overlooked Óbidos’ red rooftops, and walking the ramparts at dusk as the lights flickered on was unforgettable. The night was perfectly still, and morning bells and mist over the countryside completed the experience. This wasn’t just a hotel stay — it felt like living inside history.   An inaccessible uncomfortable disappointment

  I booked our stay at the castle hoping for a fun, romantic and unique night. Needless to say it was an epic failure. The room was dark and dingy, the bed was like sleeping on a rock and the service/amenities were substandard. We even dined in their restaurant which was average at best and overpriced.   Being a regular visitor of poussada's I invited my family to visit OBIDUS and stay in the castle. We booked three rooms.There are a number of issues that need immediate attention. The access to the castle is truly cumbersome. And although there is a possibility for pick up, it took us 30 minutes (as announced) for 2 people to get on the cart with the luggage. The others had to walk. Nothing against walking but the cobblestones are very difficult to walk as the road climbs.Arrived at the castle the struggke continues with yet more stairs to climb. Reception was nice and courteous.The rooms were an unpleasant surprise from all aspects. There was a smell of humidity. The rooms were dark with very little illumination as if we were in the times of the candles. This was very bad in the bathroom.The size of the rools was miniscule. The equipment if the rooms were minimalistic with no dressing cuoboard, but instead a rack. No place for shirts or linnen.The maintenance of the rooms was bad and not clean. Always this smell of humidity.There was no bar but a few sitting areas. No service for drinks even after requesting at the reception. The restaurant was nice. Food was excellent but clearly a lack of staff as they were racing from one end to the other. Waiting times about 45 minutes between the dishes.The criticism is above all base on the price per room; some 250 euros per room. This poussada is not of the usual standard that we are used to.   A memorable stay

  We visited Óbidos during the annual medieval fair, and stayed at the Pousada for convenience. What a unique experience indeed. Rooms are small but have all the modern amenities. Service staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet is decent.
