An historical location that is fascinating but horribly understaffed. We had to ask if there was a bar/lounge after we checked in and went to look. In hopes of having a pre-dinner drink we found an area with dirty dishes and no staff. There was a bar menu with drinks and snacks but absolutely no way to get a drink. If there is anyone in your party with accessibility issues be aware that the restaurant is up at the top of the castle around 2 -3 stories of stairs up. Most rooms are the same way. There is of course no elevator in an old castle as to be expected. I will say if you can get to the restaurant, you can’t beat the view.

Checked in via this hotel, the reception at this hotel was rude. Couldn't recommend, on a separate occasion I tried to ask about a bar and was told "closed" before I had chance to speak. A shame as the staff at Pousada Palmela were brilliant.

King for a day!

King for a day! We had a fantastic experience at the Pousada do Castelo. We chose to stay in the main castle building (knowing the rooms are smaller) - but I wanted the “authentic” experience, and it was wonderful! There was a balcony adjacent to our room (room 202) - and it was great to sit in the afternoon and enjoy our complimentary glass of cherry liquor (a local specialty). We had dinner at the hotel restaurant and everything was superb. We truly felt like royalty. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We had help with our luggage from the main village gate to our room and back at the end of our stay. I fell in love with the Village of Obidos and hope to return some day. ??

Castle Caution

We had stayed in a castle before in Spain but this one was a little different. We stayed in the tower which had 2 separate bedrooms and was kind of its own building. Very cool, however, our room had a strong smell that I did not care for. Our friends thought it might be an anti mold spray or something. We tried to keep the door open as much as possible. Our friends are tall and their bed was not long enough for them. There are rooms in the main part of the castle and we wondered if those wouldnt have been better to stay in but we really have no idea. The other thing you should know is that while we were able to get our bags taken to our room at 3 in the afternoon, which was great bec there were many stairs and cobblestones to get to the rooms, on the day we left, we had to carry our own bags down many flights of stairs bec the bellhop didnt come on till 9:30 and we were being picked up at 8:30. Thank goodness our ride knew the back way to the hotel otherwise we would have had to take them through the streets of Obidos as well. We did have dinner and breakfast at the hotel and it was good. Stay here the night before you fly home

My wife and I spent 10 days in Portugal in July. We had an afternoon flight out of LISBON to go home. We stayed at the Pousada Castelo Obidos our last night. It was a perfect opportunity to have a very nice dinner and breakfast, to stay in a really nice room in a castle and do some last day shopping in Obidos before flying home. The castle is an easy 1 hour drive to the airport. Great way to end a trip to Portugal.
