  A pretentious hotel with no style

  A thoroughly disappointing hotel. It pretends to be more upmarket than it actually is. Just because it’s big doesn’t automatically mean it’s stylish. We’ve got a suite. Yes, it’s big. And empty. They’ve definitely skimped on the interior designer (or rather: there wasn’t one), with boxy, bare walls and a single narrow window. A view of what is surely a long-running building site (for which the hotel can’t be blamed, but the pricing of the room in question certainly can). We asked for another room - nope. Although the hotel is far from being fully booked. When we got back from dinner outside: not a single window was lighted. Also a lonesome bar on the (yet again large, but empty) ground floor. No barman. Just one guest in the large hall, with his feet on the table – what was the hotel’s rating again with guests like that? Everyone has their own taste. 4-star Pestana Hotel? Never again.

  We enjoyed our stay here with a Newmarket Holidays group. It is a traditional slightly old fashioned, but charming hotel. Very comfortable room and well appointed bedroom and bathroom. The room looked out over the main street towards the palace. The window in the room was very small, but as we were only there a couple of days and we were out sightseeing most of the time it didn't bother us. The bar area was small with insufficient seating for everyone and we had to go outside and cross the main street for our evening meals. This would have been unpleasant if there was rain.Clean well cared for. Quiet room.

  Directions to the pousada are easy to follow and there’s plenty of parking although it’s made clear the lower level is not under camera surveillance. Check-in was quick and easy and after a stay elsewhere in a regular hotel room we certainly appreciated the larger space in the Pousada classic double room. The beds and bedding felt luxurious and we slept really well in a room that was quiet despite the urban setting. Both bathroom and bedroom were spotlessly clean. We were also pleased that when the room was serviced, just what we asked for was done i.e. towels left hung-up were not replaced as has happened elsewhere. The large common area in the courtyard is a bonus shared space plus an upstairs lounge at the front of the hotel. We opted to skip paying for breakfast as we’re light eaters in the morning and a coffee or a snack are easy to find close by as it’s a short walk into the town centre. Staff were always friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

  Very nice building with good facilities. Decided to upgrade to mezzanine suite described as soundproofed rooms however the corner room assigned was affected by traffic noise from two sides. Cleaned cobwebs off windowsill. Upgrade fee was thankfully refunded. Helpful desk staff. Dinner was pricey and oversalted.

  A wonderful hotel! Very friendly hotel staff, beautiful rooms and breakfast area and everything is very clean. Can highly recommend!!!
