  Wow. Unique hotel for book lovers.

  I've read about this hotel many times. So purposely made a side trip to stay here.It did not disappoint. The books, libraries made this one of the most unique hotels I've stayed in. The staff was so friendly and helpful. Amazing location - a few steps outside the castle wall. Highly recommend the restaurant/dinner and breakfast (home made pastries!) Definitely recommend this for all book lovers or a place just to chill and relax.

  The Book and Cook restaurant here, is a superb restaurant in a library in a hotel. Food was fantastic also the staff were friendly, polite and courteous.

  Exceptional value in a historic hotel

  Convenient location just outside the medieval town walls, in an area just as historic and beautiful but quieter, less crowded and more reasonably priced than within the walls. The hotel is in a rambling and charming former monastery, and the rooms and common areas are stocked with 60,000 books in a tribute to Obidos' literary reputation. Our room (one of two suites in the hotel, and a real bargain) was spacious and comfortable with a bedroom, sitting room and two full baths, plus a private balcony. The hotel's restaurant was superb - we had an elegant dinner featuring innovative takes on traditional Portuguese cuisine. Breakfasts in Portuguese hotels are usually very generous but this one was exceptional, featuring a wide variety of freshly baked items made in-house. The staff was friendly and very helpful throughout.   I was worried about staying here after reading some reviews and realizing it was outside of the city walls, however my fears were unfounded. The hotel is a few feet from an entrance to the city and the fact that it was outside made parking and luggage drop off a breeze. We had friends staying inside and it was somewhat of a nightmare to drop them off. In fact I'm not entirely sure that we won't receive a fine in the near future for trying to drop them off. As for the hotel, we had two rooms and both were big and comfortable. I only took videos of the rooms and can't figure out how to post them here. The breakfast was generous and even had an option for freshly cooked eggs. We weren't able to do e at the hotel but the dinning room was very full of ambience and beautiful. The hotel has a lovely patio that we sneaked out to at night and I can imagine it would be lovely to sit out there with a glass of wine and unwind at the end of the day. I would highly recommend this hotel and Obidos and would stay here again if we are ever in the area again.
