Absolutely the best hotel choice and highlight of our 14 day trip. We left Lisbon after 3 nights and wanted a place to relax. I booked 2 nights in Cascais before we headed to Porto. We tool the train from Lisbon to downtown Cascais not realizing this amazing property was located a 15 minute Uber ride up the coast. As the Uber pulled into the property, both my wife & I could not believe how incredible unique and breathtaking the views were and the historical past of this hotel. We meet Alexandre who was an amazing representative of the property, a fountain of local knowledge and a kind human being. We had lunch on the terrace over looking the cliffs and the Atlantic Ocean. We ate dinner the 1st night in the regular dining room (not the Michelin star part) and it was good (not great) but was a value for what you received. The next day, we rented beach lounge chairs (the hotel does not have a pool or direct beach access but the beach is a 3 minute walk) and spent the entire day relaxing and swimming. We asked for and received a local restaurant recommendation and took the 28 minute walk to that restaurant. We had 2 dinners, bottle of wine, covert, 2 take away desserts for E56 and this was hands down our best mean and best authentic experience during our trip. Breakfast each morning was part of our stay and was excellent. The entire staff works so hard and never sits still. The breakfast dining area has the most incredible views. This is a small historical property and some might consider it a little warn and dated but honestly, that was what made it perfect. Our only regret was that we only had booked 2 nights. Would stay for a week next visit.

Beautiful Views in Cascais
17 Sept 2025
When we arrived there was a glitch with the room we reserved, but hotel management quickly stepped up and went above and beyond for the mistake to ensure an excellent experience for the night. The staff were exceptional, dinner was top notch and the location and views were breathtaking. We appreciated the care management gave us despite the room glitch/issue.

A Magical Stay at Hotel Fortaleza do Guincho
05 Jul 2025
Hotel Fortaleza do Guincho is truly a magical place—an ideal spot to come/go from for a Lisbon vacation. The coastal views are absolutely breathtaking and bring a sense of peace that’s hard to describe. The hotel itself, housed in a beautifully preserved 1700s fortress, feels like something out of a fairy tale. The property is both historic and charming, with a unique character that makes your stay unforgettable. The staff went above and beyond, with Victor & Alexander standing out for their warmth and attentiveness—always ready to help with any request and doing so with genuine care. Francisco did a great job in the casual dining room from food, wine selections to good conversations while making delicious after dinner cocktails.I highly recommend this incredible hotel for anyone looking to blend history, charm, and exceptional service in a stunning seaside setting. My wife was in Portugal/Spain for 3 weeks and she said our 10 day stay at Fortaleza do Guincho was her favorite experience.

Top place with a great view
04 Jun 2025
We had the pleasure to have our vacation in Portugal at this hotel and it was a great experience. Since the arrival everything was as it should be. It is a very cosy place with all the food made in house. Michelin star restaurant was another great experience added to the hotel one. Everyone working there deserves the best appreciation for the quality of service they provide. On the plus side I can mention the balcony which is the best place to have a coffee with a view in the morning. Definitely is one of those places where you don't feel like leaving when it is over.

Not up to Relais & Chateaux standards
07 Apr 2025
We stayed here for 4 nights as part of my husbands birthday celebrations in March. We booked a junior suite with an open balcony. The room was on the small side but quirky enough to be enjoyable. We felt that everything was penny pinched - e.g fruit on arrival but not refreshed, port on arrival but not refreshed etc etc.. the dirty windows were not cleaned the whole time we were there. the black out curtains didn't fit properly and let lots of light in. No extra pillow - had to ask for one. I asked for more fruit and we received a few tangerines - it seemed almost that they were annoyed that we had dared ask.No one asked us the whole time whether everything was Ok and did we need anything - they were frankly just not interested. On leaving the man on reception asked if everything was Ok and I said "no not really - mixed"..... he didn't enquire further as to what our issues had been.We had dinner in their on site Michelin Star restaurant - please see separate review on this. We had a very embarassing incident which spoilt my husbands birthday celebrations. We believe that this establishment is not up to Relais Chateaux standards at all... The two male owners were on site and seen in breakfast but they didn't introduce themselves or seem bothered about our experience. All in all very disappointing and expensive for what we got.

Dear guest 981SueB,First of all, I would like to apologise for such a late answer.Although it is not an excuse we took the time to analyse all your remarks.1 - Being the Hotel built in a Fortress from the XVII century a protected building, did not allow us to change the inside structure; nevertheless I want to thank you for giving us the chance to share with other travellers the size of our rooms Junior Suite overlooking the Atlantic Ocean are located on the 1st floor, and ranging between 35 to 38m2.Superior room overlooking the Atlantic Ocean are located on the 1st floor, and ranging between 25 to 28m2.Classic rooms are located on the ground floor, overlooking the beach, through a small fortress window and ranging between 20 to 23m2.2 - As a matter of fact, at check in time all rooms have a small welcome gift from the Hotel, normally water, a small bottle of Port wine and homemade sweets. As per our record you did get it as well and they were replace on the 3rd day of your stay.3 - Window in publics areas an rooms, are clean at least once a day, and quite often even twice a day. It happens that in very windy days, we can clean it, as many time as we want and they are always dirty. We are sorry that you got very windy days, and therefore you had the feeling that we did not clean the windows.4 - Black out curtains, knowing that some guests complain about it, we are replacing all the black out curtains, once redecorating the rooms; we hope to end the redecoration and replacement of the black out curtains end of 2025.5 - Normally we do have extra pillows in the room, we are surprised you did not have it, but we do apologise for that.6 - We try always, as much as we can, to correspond to our clients expectations. Whenever we realise that someone is not happy we try to understand why, in order to improve it. We are surprised when you mentioned that at check out time no one seems to care about your unpleasant stay, especially because it was our reservation manager who did your check out. Nevertheless we do apologise for such an unpleasant experience.7 - Dinner in our Michelin restaurant, we do apologise for not having a written vegetarian menu, but as far as we can remember an oral option has given to you; nevertheless I am pleased to inform you that we are already printing a menu with the vegetarian options.8 - As for the last point, we are really confused since the owner of the Hotel and the General Manager are both ladies, on the top of it the owner does not live in Portugal, and shen was not in the Hotel during your stay.We are sorry that you had such an unpleasant experience in our Hotel, still should you come to Portugal, we will be extremely pleased to meet you and speak to you.Although you were disappointed with your stay, we hope you have enjoyed your time in Portugal. We remain at your entire disposal for any further information. We our best and warm regards,Hotel Fortaleza do Guincho Relais & ChâteauxTel. : +351 214 870 491@ : reservations@guinchotel.ptMariana FrancoDirector of Sales
