Very dark and only 1 lift. Staff nice and comfortable hotel

    rating03 Jun 2026

I recently stayed at 9Hotel Mercy in Lisbon and, while the location is relatively central and convenient for exploring the city, my overall experience was fairly average. The hotel is situated on one of Lisbon’s many steep hills, which is worth considering if you have mobility issues or don’t enjoy uphill walks. From the outside, it doesn’t immediately feel like a hotel, and the overall atmosphere continues once inside. The reception area is directly opposite the entrance and check-in was quick, efficient and hassle-free. However, the reception space itself is quite small and cramped, with limited room for guests. There is also a small coffee area adjacent to reception. One of the most noticeable aspects of the hotel is how dark it is throughout. The corridors, reception area and guest rooms all have a very dimly lit feel, which may suit some guests but wasn’t to my taste. The hotel only has a single lift serving all floors, which made travelling up and down the building quite slow, particularly during busy periods.Breakfast is served on level -1 in a very small dining area. Unfortunately, this was one of the weaker aspects of the stay. The selection was limited, the room lacked atmosphere, and it didn’t provide the welcoming start to the day that many hotels strive for.I stayed in Room 101, which was spacious but unusually shaped. Like the rest of the hotel, it was very dark. The room overlooked a small area containing artificial plants, so there was effectively no view. On the positive side, the bed was large and comfortable, tea and coffee-making facilities were provided, and the bathroom was spacious with an excellent shower. The hotel advertises a rooftop terrace, but this was out of service during my stay, which was disappointing.Overall, the hotel was adequate and met the basic requirements for a short stay. However, aside from the comfortable bed, spacious bathroom and good shower, there was little that stood out positively. Given the choice, I would probably stay elsewhere on a future visit to Lisbon.

    Comfortable, conveniently located boutique hotel

    rating29 May 2026

We loved 9Hotel Mercy – couldn’t pick a better location to be able to walk to everything in Lisbon, including train station, tram, tour pickup spots, major sights and more. Tons of nice shops and restaurants right in the Bairro Alto neighborhood to boot. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, and the general manager, Paulo, was incredibly kind and welcoming. The room was super clean and so spacious (especially for the traditionally smaller European hotel rooms). Yes, the room décor was dark, but who cares! Had nice big windows with plenty of sunlight looking out on the street. As an added perk, the hotel also has a complimentary individual serving fresh ground coffee machine in the lobby, which literally made the best coffee we had in Portugal! Highly recommend 9Hotel Mercy for your stay in Lisbon!

Great potential and location, but slacking on basic upkeep

    rating29 Mar 2026

This is a small, stylish and conveniently located boutique hotel in central Lisbon, within easy walking distance of many of the major tourist spots (if you don't mind the hills). The room was more than sufficiently large for a solo traveler, quiet despite the busy street outside, and very comfortable.Sadly, maintenance seemed to have been overlooked as there were numerous issues with the room, from very poor drainage in the sink and shower to a dead Bluetooth speaker and unresponsive air conditioning. I knew there was a rooftop bar, but it was surprisingly closed during my stay, with no signage or other indication as to when it would be open. On the plus side, breakfast was excellent and staff were very pleasant and helpful.Ultimately I did enjoy my stay but the maintenance issues are hard to overlook, and I will probably look for another property the next time I'm in Lisbon.

    An excellent, centrally located hotel

    rating02 Feb 2026

This was an excellent hotel. Modern, clean, affordable and with a very welcoming and attentive staff. It's very centrallly located and I was an easy walk to the big food market down by the ferry terminals, to the big waterfront plaza and to the pedestrian shopping/cafe street. For everything else, I took tuk tuks. My only regret was that I went there in January when the hotel's rooftop deck was closed.
