Location

This historical city hotel is located in the square that bears a statue and name of Luís Vaz de Camões, the soldier poet who told the story of Portugal's discoveries in his epic poem, "Os Lusíadas". To this day, Bairro Alto remains synonymous with creativity and revolution, the latter if only in spirit since the people's uprising in 1974. The Bairro Alto district (literally the Upper City) is an historic enclave dating from 1513, which is reached in a unique way via the Santa Justa Elevator (a structure reminiscent of the Eiffel tower in Paris) from the lower city. At night the area comes alive with some of the finest Fado cafes in the city, along streets lit by Victorian lanterns. In recent times, Bairro Alto has also made a name for itself as an alternative shopping destination, popular with those looking for fashion and designs outside the mainstream.

Facility

The hotel was built in 1845. The hotel has a lift and features 55 rooms and 4 suites. Guests are warmly welcomed by multilingual staff (English, German, French) at the 24-hour reception desk in the lobby. Check-in/check-out service is available round the clock. Amenities include a baggage storage service, a safe and a currency exchange service. Wireless internet access allows guests to stay connected while on holiday. The hotel has a range of facilities for guests with disabilities. The hotel has wheelchair-accessible facilities. There are a number of shops as well. Additional facilities include a library. Air conditioning and central heating ensure that rooms maintain comfortable temperatures. Guests can enjoy the view of the countryside from a balcony or terrace. Rooms have a queen-size bed or a king-size bed. Extra beds can be requested. A safe, a minibar and a desk are also available. Additional features include a refrigerator, a mini fridge and a tea/coffee station. An ironing set is provided for guests' convenience.     Amazing location and staff! Everyone was welcoming and helpful. The rooms are beautiful and well insulated from the noise from the plaza just outside.     Really unimpressed. I thought maybe it was just Lisbon and was not keen to return, but having just stayed at Art Legacy, in a much larger group, I had a totally different experience. With regards this hotel, the staff were nonchalant, could not get a single order right e.g. the daily order of three poached eggs would be two fried eggs, request of water to the room would never appear. The concierge told us incorrect information e.g. dress code allowing shorts so we were refused entry, we requested a booking at a restaurant at their recommendation for 19:30 and told not possible for that evening, but I made a booking myself for 19:45. Their recommendations were over priced and poor quality, much preferred the recommendations made by Art Legacy. The rooms were noisy and unclean especially under the beds, poorly designed, I was constantly stubbing my toe. My friend was initially put in the wrong room. We hosted friends on the roof terrace one evening, drinks were incorrect and had to be sent back, some had finished their drinks before other drinks arrived.     Loved this Elegant and Convenient Hotel.

    We enjoyed this hotel. It had a convenient location walking distance to many attractions and close to a bus that went to the St. George Castle.We had a junior suite which was spacious with a full living room area and bath with two sinks, walk in shower and giant bathtub.The best part of the experience was the rooftop bar and the area outside the restaurant for meals and drinks.
