    Elegant, Art-themed, Cozy.

    rating03 May 2026

My wife and I just spent a night at this wonderful boutique hotel. It was the last night of a 9-day trip to Portugal, and we found it the perfect respite after some days of travel. We got lucky: they upgraded us to a suite, and the room and the art-themed hotel were so appealing we didn't want to leave to get in a last bit of sightseeing. Brown's is elegant, cozy and tasteful--certainly one of the best boutique hotels I've ever stayed in--though, yes, a suite can greatly influence one's opinion! They've got a "pillow menu"--a first for me. If you don't like the pillows on the bed--and there were nice--you get to choose one of four other types of headrests: we chose some down pillows, which were brought to us, and they were divine. Our room had a full-size tub for soaking and a BlueTooth speaker system, and I assume all rooms have the same. The hotel is beautifully designed, with what looked like travertine walls and (maybe) floors accented with lots of light Scandinavian wood. (Don't hold me to these material descriptions--that's just what I, no expert, took them to be.) Brown's features both a plush library/sitting room, an intimate bar area (a pour-your-own honor system)---both chock full of art books. The restaurant---lots of potted plants and overhead fans---is excellent and seems popular with Lisbon locals. It has an indoor patio area. There is a pool, bar and lounge chairs on the roof. The pool is smaller than I anticipated, but you can certainly cool off in it. We spent the first part of our Portugal trip in the Baixa strict--the most convenient area for getting around by foot, tram, train or metro. Brown's is located in a more upscale district just a little to the north of Baixa. It has lots of high-end shopping, a pretty central avenue (Liberdade) and it too is convenient for sightseeing; not quite as convenient as Baixa, but we walked to Barrio Alto in 20 minutes, for example. There are three other Brown's hotels in Lisbon. I believe this is the youngest, being only three or four years old. I don't know what the others are like--we did pass one (Brown's Central, I believe) in Baixa, so do your research. But if you like art and cozy, elegant boutique hotels with charm, I'd highly recommend Brown's Avenue.

    Customer Service at it's best

    rating22 Apr 2026

I have been to many hotels all over the World and it is not often I choose to write a review but the Team at Browns Avenue are amazing. We stayed for four nights but chose to eat out for all meals because we wanted to experience the city and its food culture which was also exceptional.Every time we walked passed reception we were greeted with a smile and a willingness to help in any way. No request was too small and was effected promptly and discreetly. This does not just stretch to one or two motivated colleagues this was everyone everyday. There are so many things to love about Lisbon, the laid back vibe, the people, the culture and of course the food and wine....but to have a Hotel full of proper professionals makes the whole holiday experience complete. Thank you.

Outstanding Service from Adélia – Truly Above and Beyond!

    rating25 Feb 2026

We had a wonderful experience with Brown’s Avenue Hotel, and we especially want to thank Adélia for her outstanding help.We noticed a charge on our card that we didn’t recognise and, as we were calling from another country, we were quite concerned. Adélia handled the situation quickly, professionally, and with genuine care. She tracked everything down for us and resolved the issue promptly, putting our minds completely at ease. She was efficient, kind, and incredibly helpful throughout the process. Thank you, Adélia — you are awesome!

An Incredible Stay — Chic, Modern, and Memorable

    rating27 Nov 2025

I can’t say enough great things about my experience at Brown’s Avenue Hotel. From the moment I walked in, the hotel felt stylish, modern, and thoughtfully designed. The lobby is beautiful with comfortable seating, and the separate library lounge is another chic and inviting space to relax. My room was wonderful—comfortable bed, great amenities, and everything I needed for a perfect stay. The staff were friendly, attentive, and created an overall positive atmosphere. The standout of my stay was the on-site restaurant. The food was exceptional and the service was even better. I tried both breakfast (buffet and à la carte) as well as a steak dinner, and each meal was genuinely 5/5. It’s rare to find a hotel restaurant that becomes a highlight of the trip, but this one absolutely did.The location is also ideal. It’s walking distance to Alfama and several central Lisbon neighborhoods, and when I needed to get around quickly, Bolt rides were fast and inexpensive.Overall, I would 100% stay here again—and honestly, I probably wouldn’t even consider another hotel given how fantastic the entire experience was.

Charming Aesthetics, But Some of the Rudest Service I’ve Ever Experienced

    rating22 Nov 2025

This was our first trip to Portugal, and we chose Brown’s Avenue Hotel for our first night based on its photos and the promise of a cute, boutique atmosphere in a walkable area. While the hotel is aesthetically charming, it ultimately fell far short of expectations—mainly due to shockingly poor service. The GoodThe hotel is visually very cute, with thoughtful touches in the room such as a complimentary bottle of wine, a Bluetooth speaker, and interesting books.Breakfast was lovely, with a generous spread of fruit, yogurt, pastries, eggs, meats, cheeses, and more, plus an à la carte menu for additional items. The location is very walkable. The Not-So-GoodThe room was extremely small—even by European boutique standards. For a five-star property, the space felt uncomfortably tight. The neighborhood, while high-end, wasn’t what we were looking for. Think Fifth Avenue in New York: designer stores like Louis Vuitton and Prada, but not much of the charm we hoped for.The Very Bad: ServiceThis is where the experience completely unraveled. After an exhausting long-haul travel day, we arrived to a doorman who seemed irritated as he moved cones to let our driver pull in. Inside, the front desk staff greeted us with four frowning faces—no warmth, no welcome, and certainly no hospitality. One woman in particular seemed almost delighted to tell me:that our room wouldn’t be ready for another five hours, andwhich areas of the hotel we would not be allowed to access due to private events. Her tone and demeanor were shockingly rude. I’ve traveled extensively, and I can honestly say I have never encountered service this unfriendly at any hotel, let alone one claiming to be five stars. After reading other recent reviews, it’s clear our experience was not an isolated one.Thankfully, one woman in the restaurant was polite and actually smiled. She was the lone bright spot in an otherwise unpleasant service experience.Final ThoughtsWe were only staying one night, and we were relieved to move to a four-star hotel in Baixa the next day—one with larger, more comfortable rooms and far friendlier staff.Brown’s Avenue may look like a five-star boutique hotel, but the customer service was nowhere near that level. Unfortunately, the rude and unwelcoming behavior overshadowed what could have been a perfectly nice stay.
