    Disorganized and poorly run!!!

    rating13 Jul 2024

Very disappointing experience I tried to check in but there was no picture of the front door and no one to greet me at the property. The address was confusing. Also one one place on the website it states you have to pick up your keeps at a different location 10 min away and on another it states self check in. After reaching out to Casinha dos Sapateiros on Whatsapp they took almost an hour to respond. I could not sit on the street with my wife and our luggage to wait any longer for help. This an apartment situation not a hotel. There is no front desk or staff to meet you. Also the pictures they sent me on WhatsApp contradicted the pictures they had sent me earlier in the day. In all this place is poorly run and should not be allowed to mislead people online. Look at ALL the reviews. They all state the same thing and it is all negative. You should protect yourself and not stay here. False advertising and screwing over people. This company should be removed from all online platforms until they get their systems corrected.

    Not the greatest experience

    rating01 Jan 2024

Pros - Location, room was averageCons - location was under construction, tools and construction equipment scattered all throughout the hallway. Had an elevator, but could not use stairs if there was an emergency (safety concern). Location indicated free breakfast, but nothing was there. Street parking is not available. Booked through aeroplan points. Tired and dated accommodation.

    rating27 Sept 2023

We just finished a two week trip to Portugal. We were very happy with almost all of the accommodations, with one exception: this one. Luckily we only had to stay one night at this apartment. The checkin process is brutal. You have to go to a hotel 15 minutes away on foot. Then once you get the codes for the building, you have to hike back to the apartment. We were given codes to enter building, but they neglected to give us the apartment number. It was a really stressful and frustrating situation. Once we finally managed to get into our room, it was a big letdown. The room was tiny and very dated. The noise at night was loud and nonstop. Would never stay there again. It’s a 1 star at best

    Dirty, dangerous and overpriced.

    rating21 Oct 2019

The apartment they gave us was really dirty and dangerous, no room for 3 adults. We have heard other apartments may be nicer, but ours was definitely not. The main hotel is quite a walk away, do not believe the reception when they tell you short 5 min walk, its more like 10 if you walk really fast. You have to do this walk daily for breakfast before they close each morning. The advertising for this hotel is very misleading at no point did we see pictures of the room we ended up in, nothing like it at all. The main hotel is historic and those pictures are great. That is not where they put us. We asked for help so many times and never received it, especially since the wifi didn't work and you have to walk to the hotel, 30 min return trip to ask for towels or any service at all. The staff are well trained at ignoring customers grievances. Such a shame these apartments are not renovated since they are in a great location but are truly the eyesore of the whole block. Very expensive, wished we had stayed somewhere else.

    Ticked all our boxes

This consists of small apartments in the middle of Lisbon in the Baixa Chiado area. The street they are on, runs parallel to Rua Augusta which is the main pedestrianized shopping street. Location is the best.To get to them by underground from the airport takes around 40 minutes and costs Euro 1.50. The metro station is called Baixa Chiado and requires one change of line along the way from the airport. The exit to this station has two opposing exits, the side where ticket machines and empty info booth are is the way to Baixa Chiado Square (and Palacias of Especiarias), whilst the other side takes you to the area where apartment is. On exiting, walk straight on, turn right on Rua Aurea then first left, and then right again on Rua Sapateiros. Apartment on left hand side of road big green door. HOWEVER the first time and subsequent breakfasts, has to be check-in at Palacios dos Especiarias which is by the other station exit. On exiting this side of station ,is a MacDonalds to your left. With your back to this, walk up the road to the square, and take the street to the left hand side of the central monument. Past the small confectionery shop a few doors up is a salmon coloured building, that's it. They provide transport back to apartment once you check in.The apartment we had was very clean had microwave mini fridge, coffee/tea making facilities. No room safe. There is no lift and stairs could be problematic if one has mobility issues. Also on the downside there does not seem to be street parking as the few spaces available were always occupied whilst we were there, but there is an underground pay car park close by. Exit apartment and on the right hand side is a cross roads, if you go left, straight up the road till you can go no more, there is the car park. Since breakfast is at Palacio dos Especiarias we used to walk through the underground station, so as to be helped up the hill and worked well when it rained, otherwise the streets make for a pleasant walk up hill.Breakfast was quite good. Spread over three rooms in this old palace you get mostly cold stuff but the selection is impressive.City tax not included in the hotel price is Euro 2 per person per night.
