    Very nice stay

    rating11 Nov 2025

We stayed for three nights while traveling along the southern coast. Check-in/out was good. Our accommodations were fine and the property is wonderful. The views amazing and the staff great. We had dinner on property which was very well prepared and breakfast each morning was wonderful with a variety of options. Take time to explore the property, vineyards and backdrop of the Arrabida Mountains. We took the ferry to Troia and Comporta on a day trip which was nice, but during the off peak season so not much activity. The property has an inn-like vibe with updated amenities. Enjoyable stay.

    Disappointing unfortunately

    rating07 Sept 2025

it could have been spectacular if only they had lived up to their responsibilities to care for the guests in accordance with their website offerings. The hotel is a lovely place, no question about, but they are lacking and that is why depending upon whether you are a high end traveler and expect alot you may wish to ask alot of questions beforehand. Basically, it is very pretty with a very accommodating staff. You will probably want to eat all of your meals there because it is indeed very attractive looking out onto the vineyards and to the mountains. It is elegant. The food prep is, the service is, the setting is. The complimentary breakfast was very pleasant, and great assortments of food and delicious omelettes. The hotel itself is charming and the rooms were nice "enough". They all have large terrace. The negatives were basically things to do. And considering that you come a long distance and want to see things, especially things that they advertise on their website to do, and you come there FOR THAT REASON, for them, NOT TO OFFER YOU what they advertise and/or try to accommodate your wishes-is appalling and that is what happened. They know how they ruined our trip, so I don't need to get into it. ( NO HORSES ON PROPERTY) All I say to those who are looking at this property to BEWARE and check beforehand closely. In addition to not having what they advertise, they also won't let you do anything either. For example: they have firepits outside, and the nights are cool, and a fire in the little fire dish would be very pleasant, but they won't let you light them. They said they would "go to jail" ( ridiculous,,,they are in the middle of nowhere) and why even bother having a firepit.?They have a beautiful property but they won't allow you to walk outside in the evening, even with a guide and flashlight-so it is NO FUN. I have ben to countries' all over the world where there are animals etc, and you can go outside with a guide etc for nighttime walks or safaris. So, it was just not fun there. Last note: The woman in the Activities Dept doesn't answer your inquiries because she was "kayaking all day" and when she returned finally, she ended up being a liar. A liar and incompetent. terrible women sent on n a $250 car to a nothing overcrowded local beach-BIG DEAL!

Unique experience in this beautiful country

    rating29 Aug 2025

Because of our long stay in this amazing country, we decided to explore the different types of hotel/ geographic experiences and The Hotel Casa Palmela did not disappoint. Nestled in the mountains outside of Setubal it is a gorgeous historical estate, converted to hotel. The views are spectacular and food and staff service are excellent! John, the restaurant and dining room mgr, was very knowledgeable and helpful as was the entire team. Suggest booking a larger room without the balcony if you want more space. There are two separate areas/ pools for families and those traveling without children. Ask for a tour of the estate— so much history! There is no fitness Ctr, but plenty of exercise option with bikes, horses and long hikes! This was a unique and wonderful experience!

    Scenery Great, Experience Disappointing

    rating27 Aug 2025

Casa Palmela is set in a truly beautiful location – surrounded by vineyards with stunning views and sunsets that feel very special. Unfortunately, the hotel itself does not live up to the promise of its surroundings, nor to its billing as part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World. The rooms and facilities feel dated, with details that don’t match the luxury positioning. The shower only ever ran lukewarm at best, and the swimming pool seemed tired and in need of renovation. The so-called spa looked more like an abandoned trailer left in a back lot of the vineyard than a luxury wellness facility. The restaurant was another major disappointment. The menu is overpriced, the food did not feel fresh, and there was no sense of cooking mastery. Breakfast was equally underwhelming, with very limited options and even eggs charged as an extra.Overall, despite the beautiful natural setting, the hotel falls far short of expectations and offers no real value for money. A luxury label requires more than just a good location – Casa Palmela, sadly, does not deliver.

    Mixed reviews

    rating10 Aug 2025

Mixed feelings. The location was wonderful if you need to stay near Lisbon but not in the center - outside Setúbal and close to Lisbon. And all the staff were friendly and professional. We had a villa which appeared luxurious in photos but was somewhat average - one side faced other rooms so we needed to keep curtain closed and one side faced rear of the resort. And we had no hot water the morning of check out. We are ate at the restaurant and while the setting was magnificent with service to match the meal itself was our least favorite in all of Portugal - and quite expensive so we were left disappointed (desert was good though).
