Location

This welcoming, tradition-rich hotel lies on Lisbon's famous main square, Rossio, and offers fabulous views out over the Castelo de São Jorge, the Dona Maria II national theatre and the old town district of Alfama. The airport is about 8 km away and the centre of Rossio with its many shopping and entertainment venues, restaurants, bars and nightclubs is just 50 m from the hotel. Links to the public transport network can be found directly beside the hotel and it is well worth paying a visit to the nearest beach that lies about 15 km away.

Facility

The hotel was built in 1917. The hotel has 36 double rooms, which are located on 5 storeys and are reachable by lift. English- and French-speaking staff at the reception are happy to assist guests at the reception desk round the clock. Check-in and check-out are available 24 hours a day. Amenities include a safe and a currency exchange service. Wireless internet access allows guests to stay connected while on holiday. The tour desk offers assistance with booking excursions. A number of shops, including a supermarket, are great for shopping or just browsing. Additional amenities include a TV room and a library. Guests arriving by car can park their vehicles in the garage (for a fee) or in the car park. Further services and facilities include a babysitting service, a childcare service, a car hire service, room service, a laundry service and a coin-operated laundry.

Rooms

Air conditioning and central heating ensure that rooms maintain comfortable temperatures. Guests can enjoy the view of the city from a balcony or terrace. All rooms are carpeted and include a double bed. Extra beds can be requested. A safe and a minibar are also available. An ironing set is provided for guests' convenience. A direct dial telephone, a television with satellite/cable channels, a radio and WiFi (no extra charge) are provided as well. A hairdryer and a telephone are provided in the bathrooms, which include a shower and a bathtub. The hotel has non-smoking rooms.

    The Metropole Hotel is conveniently located, with lots of restaurants, Rossio railway station and Rossio metro station nearby. It has a small, discreet entrance at ground level on the west side of Rossio Square, officially known as Praca Dom Pedro IV. The staff were kind, knowledgeable and professional. Our room was spacious and clean with a large bathroom with a marble floor. Breakfast was very special, with everything you would expect, but also including freshly baked bread and delicious Portuguese pastries. One of the highlights of our stay was looking out over Rossio Square while we had breakfast. The room beside reception that is used for breakfast can also be used as a sitting room. You can also get tea or coffee there. We felt very safe in the hotel and I feel that individuals travelling alone would also feel very safe there. I cannot recommend this hotel enough and will definitely return

    Very nice and still authentic hotel. I appreciated the furniture and good quality of the bed sheets. Located in a convenient position. Staff and manager were kind and professional. Clean and neat.

    Perfect location. At Rossio Square.Great view. Close to all facilities.We had a memorable times. The staff had been excellent..The lift is small but staff came down to help us with baggage. The common space near the Reception was good relaxing place. Many eateries around.

    Hotel Metrapol is just so nice, from the front desk to the beautiful kitchen staff. The could not do enough for us. Rooms are so cool, because they've embraced the elegance of a real hotel, marble, deep tubs ,, a little veranda, If you want Europe this is where you should go. And the fantastic breakfast, all included. Beds are heaven . And EVERYTHING is right at your doorstep. Jaoua (sp) at the desk is like a city guide. so helpful. ❤️

    We arrived early to the hotel and we were very pleasantly surprised to find our room was ready at 11am and what a room! Very spacious, modern and clean with a balcony overlooking the bustling square. We had read reviews saying that the hotel was outdated so we had expected an old worn building but we booked anyway due to the location. However, both our room and hotel seemed to have very recently been updated because they didn’t seem to be outdated at all, quite the opposite. The only slight downside was the odd unassuming entrance being just a door between 2 restaurants and the reception was small and not immediately easy to find but we soon forgot about that straight after check in. It would also have been a comfort to have a safe. Staff however were all very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.
