  Rooftop Bar Review - spoiler...its a winner

  This is a chain of hotel/bars around the world. A quirky relaxed vibe with a great atmosphere. We didn't book we explored and found ourselves staying all night... The food platters were delicious and the drinks well made with lots of variety. The staff is accommodating. Enjoying the music and the view in comfortable surroundings was one of the highlights of our weekend away to Lisbon. Would visit again.   Garish but surprisingly quiet.

  A lively hotel - but the rooms are surprisingly quiet!Eclectic decor - fish on the ceiling?No tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms, which we found very unusual these days and we were not happy about that.The room was small but acceptable for a city centre venue.   A vibrant, feel-good stay at Mama Shelter Lisbon ❤️

  We just wrapped up our stay in Lisbon and I couldn’t leave without sharing how special our experience at Mama Shelter was. The hotel is located near the Av. da Liberdade and the Rato metro station is also a 5-minute walk away. From the moment we stepped into this colourful, lively hotel, we were greeted with genuine warmth. The atmosphere is fun and cosy at the same time — exactly what you want after a full day of exploring the city. The reception team is outstanding (and I say this as someone who has worked in the industry). Andreia and Carolina immediately made us feel at home and quickly won over our chatty 12-year-old with their friendliness. Their excellent restaurant recommendations led us to some fantastic local spots and even great sushi at Miyazaki. Henrique was equally brilliant — always patient and happy to answer all our questions.The rooms are exactly as pictured on their website: bright and colourful, clean, and comfortable, with a beautifully spacious shower in the bathroom.Breakfast quickly became one of our favourite parts of the day. The colourful restaurant offers a lovely spread — proper English breakfast items (beans, bacon, sausages, fried eggs), excellent hams and cheeses, fresh homemade bread, pastries, little American pancakes, and plenty of healthy options. We especially loved the big smoothie station with fresh fruit. A big shout-out to the wonderful morning team: Wanessa, Guli, and all the lovely ladies who always greeted us with smiles and great energy.We also had dinner twice at the hotel restaurant and both meals were genuinely delicious. Ivo’s service was warm, professional, and memorable.Mama Shelter didn’t just provide a place to sleep — the incredible staff made our whole Lisbon trip feel even more special.   Hotel is situated very close to the two metro lines so it really helps in Lisbon sightseeing. Very friendly and professional people on the reception . Breakfast diversified and tasty.   WORST EXPERIENCE

  We had a very disappointing experience at Mama Shelter.From the moment we arrived, we felt completely invisible — no “good evening,” no welcome, nothing. We were simply shown to our table without any kind of interaction.Our waitress was extremely unfriendly. She answered in a rude and dismissive way, as if we were bothering her just by being there.When the food arrived, it was honestly very mediocre. My meat was overcooked and completely tasteless. My boyfriend ordered the crunchy chicken rice, and it was just as bland — no flavor, no personality.What makes it worse is that I’ve been to other Mama Shelter locations and always had great experiences. This one was by far the worst.The drinks were not good either, which made the whole experience even more disappointing considering the price. We ended up paying quite a lot for a dinner that was absolutely not worth it.We left immediately after finishing our plates.We will definitely not be coming back and would not recommend this place.
