  We survived...but not for us!

  Location s good but the area is scary. You're left at an anonymous door with no prior advice how to enter. Junkies congregate on the other side of the road. The room was clean enough but the smell of the plumbing overwhelmed the room. There is some sort of Goth bar next door and all the patrons spill out onto the street...

  This is by far the worst place I've stayed in recent years. The room is located right next to the hostel's shared bathroom, making it impossible to sleep due to constant noise. To top it off, rats are scurrying around the room. The management shows no concern for guests—they only care about getting your money, and once you've paid, any issues are dismissed as your problem. Without the ability to rest, nothing else matters. The positive reviews are completely misleading. Avoid this place at all costs.

  A decent guesthouse close to the centre

  Our room was large enough to fit our bags and storage space for our clothes. Air conditioning in the room was well received. The bed was comfortable and the TV had a surprising number of English language channels.The shared bathroom was large and clean.The building was a little difficult to find initially as there's no large sign outside, but with the aid of Google Maps, we found it in a few minutes.The location is a 10-min (uphill) walk to the best miradour in the city and walking distance to the Alfama district. It's also a five-min walk to one of the start points for the 28E tram and the centre of Lisbon is a short walk futher.You can order a breakfast box to your room, but there's also a nice cafe for breakfast just down the street. Further down the road is the Moorish quarter, which may be intimidating for some, but it's not unsafe.Staff were very friendly and helpful. You can store bags in a secure room and there's easy access to the airport by the Metro.

  BEWARE: rats, incompetence and insecurity Let me start by saying: I have been to many hotels, campsites, hostels, etc. throughout Europe, but what happened goes beyond all limits of hygiene, personal safety and common sense. When we returned to the room at 11.30pm we noticed the presence of a RAT. We mentioned this to the staff at reception and they told us that he was doing NOTHING and that he was going home. He contacted his manager who told us to go to another facility. By now it was 00:00 on a Saturday in August, the hotels were either full or the check-ins were closed therefore he literally left us in the middle of the ROAD without worrying about our SAFETY and not answering the telephone provided on Booking. The area is quite SAD, plus the entrance door must always be left open with people of dubious recommendation passing through. Plus the hygiene is overall poor, there is a strong smell coming from the stairs and after what happened they made this the WORST experience of MY LIFE in an accommodation facility.ATTENZIONE: topi, incompetenza e insicurezza Premetto: sono stato in moltissimi hotel, campeggi, ostelli, ecc di tutta Europa, ma quanto successo va oltre ogni limite di igene, sicurezza personale e buonsenso. Rientrati nella stanza alle 23:30 ci accorgiamo della presenza di un RATTO. Lo abbiamo fatto presente al personale in reception e ci ha detto che lui non faceva NIENTE e che se ne sarebbe andato a casa. Ha contattao il suo responsabile che ci ha detto di andarcene in un'altra struttura. Ormai era 00:00 di un sabato di Agosto, gli hotel o erano pieni o i check-in chiusi pertanto ci ha letteralmente lasciato in mezzo alla STRADA senza preoccuparci della nostra SICUREZZA e non rispondendo al telefono fornito su Booking. La zona è abbastanza MALFAMATA, in piu il portone di ingresso va lasciato sempre aperto con passaggio di persone di dubbia raccomandazione. In più l'igene è complessivamente scarsa, c'è forte odore proveniente dalle scale e dopo quanto successo hanno reso questa l'esperienza PEGGIORE DELLA MIA VITA in una struttura ricettiva.

  poor hostel, terrible staff

  My worst experience in any hostel ever (have been travelling all across Europe)I have recently stayed in this hostel.The location is medium dangerous, the building itself is stinky, it is challenging to identify which apartment is the guesthouse (not just for me there were two other couples waiting at the entrance). The street is VERY noisy, and windows do not protect you from that, not even the window blind properly from the sun.The apartment was spotless clean and the beds were comfy that is the only positive thing I can say. There was only one bathroom with toilet for I don't know how many rooms as I have not checked the whole building, but I would say at least 5 rooms, so 10 people at least.The guy at the reception was incompetent, the management lady very angry and started to shout to me in Portuguese when I flagged an issue that a hand sanitizer was malfunctioning and as a result the product ended up in my face and damaged my brand new coat. The owner who I spoke over the phone neglected his responsibility did not even apologized for the inconvenience or thanked me for protecting other guests from the same issue reoccurring, instead he told me over the phone it was my fault as I pushed the thing too hard without even checking the condition of the facility within his own hostel... This level of customer service is even below zero really. So the whole stuff is extremely rude I would recommend anyone to stay away from this place.Not to mention that there was an air conditioning in the room but if you are unfamiliar with certain set-ups like energy saver mode and night mode you could not get your room heated and it was used as a default setting...
