Might be OK, if they weren’t advertising as a 5 Star…

    rating12 May 2026

Firstly, I have travelled extensively staying in a very, very wide range of hotels from some of the most exclusive and expensive in the world to remote mountain huts with no running water. I love all the experiences equally- the key is expectations and value for money. This hotel advertises as “5 Star”:- No reception - No coffee or tea facilities in rooms- Very understaffed - ring a bell if you want help/to order a drink- coffee is complementary, but tea is not - rooms are in very poor condition (dirty walls, grubby furniture) - No mirror in our room, just a mirror above the bathroom sink - filtered water provided on the 1st day only- not replenished - Breakfast (a highlight and very delicious actually!), but tea & coffee forgotten & served at the end of our meal after asking. - Upgraded on arrival as they had obviously overbooked, however to a room in a new extension and we preferred to stay in the main historic building. Asked for the original room type and got the same room type, but it looked nothing like the photos on Expedia.- Expedia booking included a “free bottle of wine”. We’re tired of feeling that we had to “ask” for everything, so didn’t even bother to ask for that. It wasn’t offered. An example of the lack of attention to detail that 5 star service demands.- Bathroom shower has a step that gets slippy and is potentially dangerous- would be easily fixed with a grippy mat etc - bathroom door doesn’t close properly and there is a gap between the door and floor even if closed - Lock on the bedroom door is tricky but apparently this is being fixed soonThe pros:- lovely dining/communal areas decorated very nicely- nice pool area with comfortable loungers - quiet location - Mostly friendly and kind staff who wanted to be accommodating and polite, if a little clueless with no idea of how to provide a 5 (or even 4) start service

One of the best & most unique hotels in Lisbon ❤️

    rating27 Apr 2026

Beautiful Hotel in Lisbon. Very unique style converted palace. Loved the design, decor and various levels. Stayed in one of the pool rooms and could see the port and the river by the pool. The staff were so accommodating and brought everything to the room. Room was spacious, beautiful & clean. Breakfast freshly made to order and best of anywhere I’ve ever had in a hotel. The area is old Lisbon and part of one of the coolest neighborhoods with wine bars and restaurants to explore. Safely away from tourist traps. Check out Insaciável, Taberna de Esperança & Familjen in the evening. Highly recommend this Hotel x

    Not a good experience

    rating22 Apr 2026

Be aware that this hotel looks fine in the main areas but the rooms are a completely different story. Despite requesting a room on a lower floor, we were put in the top floor with an extremely steep staircase & no staff available to assist with bags when we checked out. The beds were uncomfortable & the bathroom was a hazard. There was an absurdly designed step up into the shower & toilet with slippery tile. The locks on the door are difficult to use & half the time, we basically had to go all the way back downstairs to get someone to open our door. For the price this hotel charges, find a better property. The staff were nice but that doesn’t make the place a good enough experience for the expense.

Palacio Ramalhete, the place to stay in Lisbon, Portugal.

    rating15 Sept 2025

Unassuming from the street view, this accommodation will impress those with the highest expectations ! This is truly a beautiful boutique hotel with large rooms, appealing decor throughout, a graceful dining room and a choice of sitting rooms (inside or out). This 300yo hotel includes a bar servicing inside and out along with shaded outdoor gardens and a rooftop pool. The staff are friendly, helpful and keen to ensure you enjoy your stay. For the older generations, there are a lot of stairs, so book a room near the front door. It is rumoured that 'Madonna' once stayed at this wonderful accommodation!!

    Understated Luxury with attentive staff

    rating12 May 2025

I would describe the Palacio Ramelhete as quiet understated luxury with an old-world feel. The historic hotel is located in an ideal location between Belem and the Lisbon waterfront with easy access to both by bus, tram or Uber. We walked around the local neighborhood near the museum and found several good restaurants. Our room was the Grand Ramelhete Suite which was large and luxurious. One of the best things about the hotel is the included full breakfast with several treats on the menu. We were met by the friendly professional staff at the door who took our bags and the hotel manager provided us with some refreshments and introduced us to the hotel, amenities, etc. We knew from that moment that we were in good hands from attentive staff committed to our comfort. Note: Other reviews mentioned the need to carry luggage up and down stairs. We did carry our bags down some stairs to the reception area for checkout and a staff member helped us carry them to the street. Given it’s a luxury hotel, they would have taken it from the room if asked.
