Very disappointed, I had to look for another place.

    rating29 Dec 2022

What we saw in the photos had nothing to do with the reality. The worst was to see old and shrinked sheets and blankets and the pillow looked like it was dirty, there was a hair on it. Off course I could not sleep there, I slept over the blanket. It was super cold at night, there was no heating, the mattress was thin and hard. I could not sleep at all. Super small room and bathroom, the door was very thin you could hear everything. We could also hear everything outside the room. We called the owner and no one answered but anyway there was nothing to do. There are no employees staying permanently there. We had to book a last minute hotel from the next day. However when the employee came, he pexcused himself for the inconvenient and returned us the money. I don´t recommend it even if you will stay one night. I should have guess, given the price, it is much lower than other places in the area.

Quirky, affordable, clean, pleasant and great location

I chose this place over a number of others with similar prices / reviews because of the quirky name. The place lives up to it! Very pleased with our stay (our anniversary weekend). The B&B:Only four bedrooms, and entrance hall, no reception as such. You are given a front door and bedroom door key, and can come and go as you wish. Decor is quirky - great portraits of an assortment of people, principally musicians, philosophers and psychoanalysts with a few others for good measure. Our room was at the front of the house, with a little balcony looking down on the street, and the tracks of the famous #28 tram. Rooms have names as quirky as the place. If the name Ritz & Freud might lead you (rightly) to think this is a guest house owned by a psychotherapist with a sense of humour, try analysing Ze da Guine, Peace Makers, Don Quixote and Hannah. Our room (Ze) was comfortable more than spacious, with an incredibly neat bathroom. Bed was made up and the place sorted every day. (Three day stay.)Breakfast is help yourself in the neat kitchen towards the back of the house. One morning we had ours on our balcony. (In late November!) Simple continental breakfast - cheeses, jams, hams, honey, bread, juice coffee etc. - it wasn't amazing but it did the job. We washed up our own things - and were able to use the kitchen to put together a snack on a rainy night when we had been out for a big lunch. Service. There is no reception - but don't imagine that you won't feel looked after. Both from Jose (owner) and Andreia (who actually received us) communication was excellent, and they were there precisely when we needed them to be. Internet very good throughout the property. The overall effect is of a real home from home. Location:Excellent! You are 10 to 15 minutes walk from a lot of stuff you will want to see. You are also right on one of the most favourite public transport routes in the world. Good restaurants are close at hand. Can thoroughly recommend.Getting there: Lisbon airport is closer in to the city centre than the London airports - it would probably be be 20 minutes by cab. We arrived by tube (the equivalent of an Oyster card is easily bought, and seems to last forever - public transport is economical - we seemed to use the system a lot of 10 euro each) two tubes, about 60 minutes door to door, including a downhill 10/15 minute walk down Rua de Sao Bento from Rato. On the way back we went by bus, avoiding the up hill - again, two buses, about one hour. A great stay I would recommend Ritz and Freud highly.

    Good location, reasonable rates

    rating22 Nov 2018

Location is convenient to many areas (10-15 minute walk to centro or metro/train) and the neighbourhood is fairly quiet but has lots of restaurants nearby. This is not a 5-star hotel and doesn't pretend to be, it is a quaint guesthouse and is clean. Breakfast was reasonable and wifi was adequate. Good value for the price. Our room had private bathroom right inside but I believe other rooms had shared or private bathrooms outside of the room. Owner was pleasant and helped arrange reliable transportation.

    Charming!

Excellent value, charming synthetic experience on the first floor of an old home. Not modern or ultra cool but a wonderful spot nonetheless. Communication was amazing. Location was only a 10 minute walk to everything ( lots of hills is Lisbon). Simple but perfect breakfast was also a bonus.

    Eurovision weekend visit

    rating27 May 2018

An unusual set-up as it only has 4 rooms & no reception, but this adds to the charm. Jose went out of his way to make sure everything was just right, even contacting me when my arrival was late (due to flight complications). I had the (very appropriate) Peace Makers room which had its own private (lockable) bathroom across the hall. The loom was clean and had some lovely art work & pictures on the wall. Breakfast was a self-service, pick your own affair. Plenty of food and drink to set you up for the day. The B&B is positioned on the very popular No.28 team route, which makes it perfectly situated for an early morning ride before the crowds appear. Will definitely be using this B&B again.
