  Advertised Amenities Don’t Exist + Bed Bugs

  I chose to stay at Selina Lisbon for five nights because I had previously stayed at another Selina property and had a positive experience. Based on that experience and the amenities advertised on the Selina Lisbon website, it seemed like an easy decision to book this location for my trip.Unfortunately, upon arrival, I was met with significant disappointment and quickly realized that many of the advertised features were either unavailable or did not exist. • The rooftop (Balaganía) was closed and appeared abandoned. • The pool area was also closed. • The property advertises NAŌ Sushi & Bar Lisbon, but it doesn't exist.• No social programming that Selina typically promotes was present. Essentially, none of the things advertised on their website existed. Despite these issues, I decided to continue with my stay, knowing that I could fill my days with activities offsite.Welp, during my first night, I woke up in the middle of the night and found what appeared to be a bed bug near my face. At the time, I could not confirm with certainty that it was a bed bug, so I did not escalate the issue. After the second night I had several bumps around my neck, wrist, hands, and ankles – at which point I packed my bag and checked out. The staff assistant me with the check-out was apologetic and helped me get a refund the remaining days.There is more to be said, but I think I made my point. On a positive note, the staff were friendly, the mattress was comfortable, and the location is great. With this, I can’t recommend this as a hotel, but as a low budget hostel, I could – assuming they attend to the bed bugs!

  Beautiful place, great location… but noisy day and night. Not suitable for families or couples looking for calm.

  This is clearly a youth hostel, not a hotel. It would be important to be transparent about this, as the place is much better suited to young travelers seeking a lively atmosphere than to families or couples wanting to relax.Noise is constant: an unannounced party on a Wednesday night in mid-October, with loud music until 12:30 a.m., followed by construction starting at 8 a.m. inside the hotel (on the ground floor) and in an adjacent wing currently being renovated drills, grinders, hammers. On top of that, loud music is played in the common areas from 9:20 a.m. Walls are paper thin you can hear everything: neighbors talking, doors slamming, hallway noise, and even planes overhead. My WhatsApp message reporting our inability to sleep due to the volume received a quick reply, but that doesn’t make up for the lack of anticipation. It’s simply impossible to rest or work in these conditions.The private room (about 2 x 4 meters) is tiny. The curtain is too small and not blackout. No air conditioning, no TV. No shampoo only bath cream, liquid soap, and conditioner in the shower. No courtesy products on the sink and no hand soap. The bed slats creak with every movement. The welcome was disappointing: more than 10 minutes waiting with no explanation, a rather unfriendly male receptionist, and the more welcoming female receptionist disappeared without notice.At €95 per night without breakfast, the value for money is poor for this standard. Many reviews on other platforms mention the same issues noise, maintenance, bedbugs (fortunately, we were spared) yet management doesn’t seem to take any corrective action.On the positive side: the location is excellent, in the heart of Cais do Sodré

  Both nights there was thumping loud DJ music until after 11pm, and noise/music started again very early in the morning, so impossible to get any sleep. The curtain was even too small for the window so it didn’t get dark! One night, I got back and housekeeping had changed my sheets - and when I pulled back the duvet, the sheet was dirty with hairs on it and live bugs! I called reception and they tried to get me to sleep on it for a night as housekeeping wasn’t there! I refused naturally, and when someone came with new sheets and stripped off the current ones, every layer down to the under sheet was stained and dirty. Shocking lack of hygiene or care for visitors here, I would not recommend.

  I had an allergic reaction to the fragrance they use and the property was extremely unprofessional. They would not return any phone calls or emails from me or the booking company and I was told in person that I would get a refund because I was forced to move out same day as I checked in (minutes after being in the room) due to the reaction. Would not recommend for this unprofessional behavior.

  bed bugs and disregard from management

  BED BUGS!My partner and I arrived at Selina and upon checking in we checked the room for bed bugs following US EPA guidelines, which is something we do anytime we're staying away from home. The mattress cover in room 305 was covered in blood spots as is found when there are or have been bed bugs. After alerting reception we were offered room 504 and upon inspecting that bed similar blood stains were visible (photos attached). The patterning of these blood spots stains is not something that would be caused by someone bleeding on the mattress for another reason. As the stains on two different floors and rooms suggest either an active bed bug infestation or one that was not fully treated, we decided not to stay and booked another hotel at a significant expense and stress as it was after 8pm already. If Selina was serious about treating the infestation they would have thrown out and replaced the mattress covers.While the receptionist seemed understanding, she doubted that the stains were from bed bugs, which is alarming considering (1) all of the other recent reviews about bed bugs and (2) identification of signs of bed bugs should be basic knowledge for anyone in the hotel business. She said she was unable to refund us and that her manager who did have the ability to do so was unavailable, despite the fact that we could see and hear her sending and receiving voice memos to/from the manager about the situation while we were standing there.We have now emailed the Selina email address that the receptionist provided 3 different times and have received no response whatsoever. We received an automatic email from them that canceled the reservation, but we still haven't received any refund. This level of service (or lack thereof) is extremely unprofessional and unacceptable and shows poor regard for customer and public health.
