  Good place for a base

  Ok so there are mixed reviews on here for this hotel - this is my honest opinion and I travel 3/4 times a year. Hotel is not in a quiet spot, it’s on a busy road but this didn’t bother us as we used the hotel just as a base. We were out everyday so it was just somewhere to sleep. Bus stop right outside hotel running into town for 2euros per person or for approx 5 euros you can get a “bolt” taxi. Building work is out of the control of the hotel but it’s going on either side of the hotel and this can be heard when relaxing by the pool. Our room even overlooked a huge crane! Again we didn’t make a fuss as we were off out. Breakfast is plentiful but can be a bit manic at 9am ish…tables are very close together and at times service is slow clearing tables and replacing empty items. The reception team are amazing tho and super welcoming. The room we found very comfortable for our 5night stay with a comfy bed and amenities, steamer, hairdryer so all in all value for money if you just want a base.   Perfect base for visiting Madeira

  Our first visit to Madeira and we wanted a single base, with parking and outdoor relaxing space from which to explore Funchal and the rest of the island.With friendly a friendly team (reception, restaurant and housekeeping), parking, modern clean, bright airy rooms, very comfortable bed, outdoor pool and sunbeds, extensive breakfast buffet, the Allegro delivered on all fronts. It's a 25-30 minute walk into central Funchal, but we took the frequent bus from just outside (2.05 Euro each way per person) or a Bolt car (about 5 Euro) a few times. 5 minutes in the other direction is the Lido and other dining options. It's about 1 hr 15 mins pleasant seafront walk to the next town of Camera do Lobos too.Having stayed at a number of Barcelo hotels, this one is a much smaller 'boutique' property, but maintains all the standards of a very well run hotel.   I have already said the problems on your hotel.parking .a lot people and lousy breakfast and water pressure.   The hotel was very well located, and we really enjoyed our stay. Communication prior to arrival was good, the breakfast was excellent, and the hotel was spotlessly clean. The staff were efficient and friendly throughout our visit.The only real downside was the room design. There was no wardrobe; instead, the hanging space was positioned over the desk/dressing table, which felt very strange. This made the desk unusable, particularly if you had dresses or longer items. In my opinion, it was a very poor design choice.Additionally, there was a dog (or dogs) barking throughout the night. Sleep quality is extremely important, and in the UK this would be something you could report to the local council. I’m not sure how this works locally, but it did significantly impact our rest.One other point to note is that the half‑board option at €30 per person felt overpriced, especially when local bars and restaurants nearby were much more affordable.Overall, it was a lovely stay with only a few notable drawbacks. Nevertheless, we appreciate your feedback and will share it with the relevant department as part of our continuous review of our offerings and pricing.Overall, we are glad to know that you still found your stay to be a pleasant one, despite the drawbacks mentioned.
