A relaxing and warm stay in Gaula!

    rating27 Apr 2026

We arrived here after a gruelling 19 mile hike from the mountains deep in Madeira... We were warmly welcomed and accommodated upon arrival and found that it was well worth the hike. The rooms exceeded expectations, a full self sufficient room where you could cook for yourself with all the kitchen equipment needed to do so!The next day, we had several hours before needing to head back to the airport and they happily accommodated us until we left. We were fed lunch and freely allowed to chill out in their bar and pool area which was really kind of them.Sure, they are far from any major tourist hotspots, however, the hotel location offers an authentic experience deep within the local communities and we found it to be a very peaceful and relaxing end to our stay in Madeira!

Hotel clean and tidy. Could do with some maintenance in areas. Kitchen areas could do with kettles and toasters for guests who are self catering, bathrooms could do with shower curtains around the bath

    Not the best

    rating06 Feb 2019

Recently visited and tbf for the price we weren't expecting much. The staff were friendly enough however the issue was with the room. Basics missing such as shower curtain, working lights, working aircon not even a kettle (come on I am British a morning cuppa is a must). A double room was booked for a romantic holiday however, we got a room with 2 single beds. Every evening we would push the beds together and remake so we could sleep together and everyday we would return to find 2 seperate beds again. Most worrying was the broken patio doors which made it impossible to lock and therefore any security was very much lacking. It is a good job we had a hire car as everyday we would have to take all our belongings out with us. The only positive I can mention is the view from the balcony was amazing and every morning we could watch the sun rise over the sea. All in all I would find it very hard to recommend to anyone.
