  Lack of flexibility in the face of a situation of force majeure that prevented the arrival on the island.

  We were unable to check in at this accommodation because our flight failed to land in Madeira due to strong wind, having returned to Lisbon for safety reasons. On that day, several flights were cancelled.We contacted the property on the same day to explain the situation and to request, exceptionally, refund or renewal of the dates. The request was rejected almost immediately. We contacted again days later and the answer was “we didn’t go because we didn’t want to.”We understand that there are cancellation policies, but as this is completely out of the control of guests, we expected some understanding or flexibility.Unfortunately there was no attempt at a solution.   Central but not costumer friendly.

  Considering the price I would have expected better costumer service. Moved to a different location (2 blocks away). The apartment spacious but very warm (directly under the roof, strong A.C. Though) in noisy neighborhood. No answer to my message, had to call them. Claimed I could leave my luggage with another hotel but was actually a (pricey) storage service I would have had to pay for…

  Big place in very central location, 2 supermarkets right outside the door. The rooftop terrace was great to watch the sun go down. We liked the spacious shower, the comfy bed and the cleaning ladies have done a great job (they clean the apartment and change towels etc every day). The contact with the host over the phone was easy, helpful and reliable.The breakfast is okay but after several days gets a bit boring, maybe a little bit more variation would be good (for example not the exact same cheese and ham every day). The noise of the air conditioning across the road can be disturbing, we did get used to it but if you are a light sleeper bring earplugs! ;-)

  Hotel not Honouring Covid-19 Vouchers

  I booked accommodation with Five Design Rooftop by Storytellers in June 2020 (booked at the start of March just prior to the start of Covid-19).The island was closed when I was supposed to visit - airlines reimbursed all costs (and did not hide behind terms and conditions during a pandemic) but Five Design Rooftop refused - instead providing me with a voucher.I accepted this voucher in good faith and believing it would be honoured. The voucher expires in the next two months. Over the past six weeks I have tried to utilize this voucher at Five Design Rooftop for a visit in June but they have not responded to any communication - in essence refusing to engage with me and making a mockery of the vouchers they provided. My family will be on the island in June but have now had to book at another provider and forfeit the 14 days of accommodation costs we paid over to them.

  Very central. Outstanding value and levels of service.

  The whole package of these apartments was excellent.... huge list of likes.Very central, good security via key codes for entrance and apartment doors. The apartment we were in was freshly decorated only a month ago. We had a standard apartment, which was larger than we expected and was very well equipped with everything you would need. The bed was very comfortable with good quality linen.The apartments house keeping manager, Zita and her team were excellent. The rooms were serviced every day, beds made up and fresh towels. Exceptional levels of service.The roof terrace was amazing with 360 degree views of Funchal. It was ideal to take your breakfast up there in the morning. Breakfast is very simple and basic but a nice touch.There is a supermarket right outside the front door, which was convenient. Restaurants are all close by and there is a taxi rank 30m away when required. (The supermarket across the road has a noisy fan in the mornings before it opens at 8am, so I would request an apartment on a higher floor if available. Even with this noisy fan we would still not hesitate to stay there again though, as there are so many positives).In summary, for a central city centre apartment it ticked all the boxes. Tremendous value for money.
