Not a palace but perfectly fine hotel

    rating30 Aug 2025

Overall best feature: proximity to the ocean and natural swimming poolsRooms: bit stuffy but reasonable, not a very good option for an extended stayRestaurant: the hotel is one part of a touristic complex that includes a souvenir shop and a restaurant/bar. The restaurant had some scathing reviews but I'm happy to say that our experience was much better. The pizza was most likely frozen, which is a shame, but we ordered knowing this. The seafood was great, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast: the food itself wasn't mindblowing and the space was very tight, but it satisfies your morning hunger. Terrace: great view of the ocean and the rock formations. Bit strange that the jacuzzi is placed in such a way that when you're in it, you don't really get to see any views. Getting there: very easy, it's at THE center of the town. If arriving by car, you can get a parking pass at check-in which lets you park at one of the most unique parking spots I've ever seen. This is just 20 meters from the hotel, and is shared by both nearby hotels and by the visitors to the natural pools. It can get a bit tricky to find a good spot during peak hours. The park has better views than the hotel, it's built on a VERY steep hill so you better be comfortable driving uphill. Summary: perfectly fine for your 1 or 2 day stay at Porto Moniz, the facilities are not top of the line but you won't really need anything from the hotel if you're staying here. I give it a 5-star but mostly because I think it deserves to be rated closer to 4 or 4.5 than in the 3-to-4 star range.

Great views but noisy in the early morning

    rating09 Jul 2024

Rooms are good, cleaning staff very friendly and professional. However, we felt like sleeping on a construction site, noise started at 7 in the morning, windows need to stay closed to avoid kitchen smells and breakfast staff seemed very uninterested in their guests.

Rudest service I have ever seen or experienced!

    rating25 Jun 2024

I don’t think I have seen or heard such a rude man as the one who was running the restaurant on the day we visited in late June. A person in our party had to change a preordered meal as it contained a meat that she is not permitted to eat. The man argued with her, dismissed her complaint out of hand, and then raised his hand at her in a ‘go away style’. We would never have chosen this place to eat but unfortunately we were taken there as part of a guided tour. If you have ‘choice’ then ‘avoid’.

    Great value

    rating05 Mar 2024

This hotel was much better than we expected, having read previous reviews. Rooms were very clean, and ours had great views of the shoreline. Breakfast was enough to set you up for the day. Staff were very friendly. Would recommend for couples.

    VERY RUDE STAFF

    rating02 Jul 2022

We never stayed in the hotel, so can't comment on that. However my sisters snd I wanted a coffee. We went upstairs as wanted to be inside, rather than out. We went to the counter and was rudely told to sit down, counter was only for paying. We saw a young guy, who was waiting on tables. We asked him where we could sit, stating quite clearly that we only wanted coffee. We sat where HE TOLD US TO. After around 15 mins an old guy came up with menus, we again stated that we only wanted coffee, not something to eat. He was extremely rude to us. Told us in no uncertain terms to, basically piss off and if we wanted coffee to go downstairs and sit outside. We told our tour guide, who directed us elsewhere, where we were made very welcome.
