  Hotel self catering apartment experience

  First impression of this modern space age building in the dark not good. At reception warm welcome from Halder who gave us an upgrade on our sea view room. Compact room for 2. But, the morning brings the full vista of a sunny Madeira start to our balcony, with unique sun shades. The bed/bedding was one of the most comfortable we have slept in. No toaster but toasting rack in combo oven/microwave. Rain shower brilliant to go with soft fluffy bath sheets. Very secure building with key cards. Had problem with locked safe, reported to reception and fixed in 15 minutes. Excellent cleaning every day if required. Lovely pool and sunbeds (towels provided) Good location.   “I recently stayed at Pestana Casino Studios and honestly couldn’t recommend it enough. The whole experience was excellent from start to finish. The apartments were spotless, modern, and really comfortable – everything you’d want for a relaxing stay.What really stood out though was the service. The night-time receptionist on Wednesday the 15th couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful.   TOO POSH TO WASH

  the Studios were clean, the self catering facilities were very minimal, the shower was excellent. the location was very good. the indoor pool at the hotel that we used once was an issue, it seems to be attended by people who are TOO POSH TO WASH, we always shower before and after using pools, but despite there being notices they were ignored. maybe bigger signs would help with guests hard of EYESIGHT Cristina Freitas, Guest Services / Front Office at Pestana Casino Studios, responded to this review Dear algal_13,Thank you for sharing your feedback.   Quirky studios with in walking distance of Funchal town.

  It was a bit of a shock to the system to arrive in Funchal after the peace of Porto Moniz as the studios are close to the centre with busy roads on both sides but once inside, the studios were of a good size & very comfortable with table & chairs both inside & on the balcony, lots of storage & a small kitchenette for making meals.The decor is quirky with bright colours & 'Steam Punk' style pipes but we thought that it worked well!The road quietened down after 9pm so noise was not an issue although the bed was quite firm so one of us did not sleep very well!We had to walk over the road to the big Casino hotel for breakfast which was a bit of a pain as it was drizzling! The hotel is very big, impersonal & busy & it was difficult to find staff to serve drinks!The buffet offering was good with a wide variety of food which was of a decent standard!We found the staff at the main hotel stand-offish & the grounds had not been cleared of spent wine bottles when we walked across which is not a very good impression, especially for a 5* hotel!The concierge service was good & we were able to leave our cases there until we were picked up but generally, the studio staff were much nicer than those at the main hotel!We would consider staying here again for a few days as it is with in walking distance of the town centre so is ideal for sightseeing but would book a quieter location to relax more!   Our room on the 6th floor of these supposedly 4* apartments had a number of things not working when we arrived - but many of which were corrected when reported. However, the beds were hard so not one good night's sleep between the two of us. The Double bed was two separately made up beds pushed together! Good location, nice shower, good & quiet aircon and fridge was useful, but no minibar as promised. We were not informed that breakfast and most facilities (including bar) were in a 'sister' hotel next door. However, some of the extra facilities next door were unavailable to use during our stay, the supposedly 5* hotel next door had pigeons in the dining room and on the work surfaces, served tea and coffee by machine which often broke down, ran out of milk or had huge queues. They also refused to provide us with tap water when we went for dinner one evening (we had ordered other alcoholic drinks). I felt sorry for those who had paid 5* fees to stay there , let alone 4* fees at our studio next door. Neither deserve their star rating.
