Location

This apartment hotel is located in the tourist resort of Funchal, just 1.5 km from the centre. A variety of bars and restaurants are to be found in the vicinity (100 m), as are links to the public transport network. A range of shops can be found 2 km away. Transfer to the airport takes about 30 minutes.

Facility

5 suites, 87 apartments and double rooms are located on 6 storeys and can be reached by lift. Multilingual staff (English, German, French) at the reception are happy to assist guests at the reception desk round the clock. Check-in and check-out are available 24 hours a day. Amenities include a safe and a currency exchange service. Wireless internet access is provided in public areas. The apartment hotel offers a number of facilities for guests with disabilities. The hotel has wheelchair-accessible facilities. A number of shops, including a supermarket, are great for shopping or just browsing. The grounds of the hotel feature a playground and a lovely garden. Additional amenities include a TV room, a playroom and a library. Guests arriving by car can park their vehicles in the garage or in the car park. Rooms

Air conditioning, central heating and a fan ensure that rooms maintain comfortable temperatures. Most of rooms include a balcony or terrace as a standard feature. The rooms have a queen-size bed and a sofa bed. Separate bedrooms are available. Extra beds can be requested. A safe provides secure storage for guests' personal property. For self-catering guests, there is a well-equipped kitchenette with a refrigerator, mini fridge, microwave and tea/coffee station. A direct dial telephone, a television with satellite/cable channels, a radio and WiFi (no extra charge) are provided as well. The bathrooms have a shower, a bathtub and a bidet. A hairdryer is also provided. For extra comfort in the bathrooms, guests are offered cosmetic products. Wheelchair-friendly rooms can be booked. The apartment hotel has family rooms, non-smoking rooms and smoking rooms.

Sport

There are indoor and outdoor pools as well as a children's swimming area. Guests can treat themselves to refreshing drinks at the poolside snack bar and a relaxing soak in the hot tub. Parasols and comfortable sun loungers are available on the sun terrace. For guests who wish to keep active, cycling/mountain biking, golf and fishing are available. With windsurfing, canoeing, sailing, catamaraning and diving available, fans of water sports will have plenty to choose from. Sport and leisure facilities at the hotel include a gym, table tennis and billiards. Guests of all ages have the opportunity to enjoy a fun entertainment programme.

Meals

Dining facilities include a café, a bar and a pub. The restaurant has air conditioning and high chairs for children. Half board is offered as a catering option. For breakfast, lunch and dinner, guests serve themseves at the buffet or choose their preferred fare from the menu (for lunch and dinner). Special meals, including diet meals, are also available. In addition, special catering options and snacks are available. The apartment hotel offers a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

    This is Pestana’s idea of an upgrade - a view of bins and a noisy road junction as opposed to greenery, pool or sea as promised in blurb. Beware they know this is rubbish but look for an opportunity to dump on a timeshare swap. Customer rep is hiding

    We stayed for two weeks at the Miramar, very large family hotel situated about a 25 minute walk from Funchal centre. We chose a delux studio which was clean and reasonably maintained but the decor was very dated and tired.The food was average at best, typical hotel buffet. Some dinner items ran out and were not replaced, one evening chicken was gone so they substituted chicken nuggets....not good. However the alternative restaurant Miramar was more formal with better food and included in half board. My comment about the dining room would be regarding the dress code. If you're going to have a dress code keep to it or don't bother having one. Not appropriate to come to breakfast in pyjamas.Evening entertainment not great, again as you would expect in a hotel of this type.All the staff were excellent and we praise and thank them all.I would encourage everyone to obtain a receipt if paying directly at the bar. One evening we were approached by a waiter who said our card payment from a previous night had been declined. Fortunately my husband could produce the evidence from his bank statement to refute this. This was accepted and apology given but left questions in our minds.

    Breathtaking Views and Lush Gardens

    The Pestana Miramar Garden in Funchal is an incredibly beautiful place which fully conveys the charm of Madeira. The exotic tropical gardens are just gorgeous and full of colors, and they are kept in perfect order. They create an incredibly relaxing atmosphere which makes you feel like you are far away from everything. The view on the sea is incredible, the employees are friendly and attentive, and the breakfasts are delicious.Nevertheless, there are some aspects in this hotel which could use some improvement. Some rooms and common areas are in need of some repairs — the old design slightly reduces the quality of the accommodation provided at this venue. Having been located in such an impressive area, this hotel definitely deserves a makeover which would make it outstanding.In general, the stay was very pleasant and memorable. It took place in one of the most picturesque places in Funchal.

    Chilled relaxed hotel with all staff helpful and polite.Pristine cleanliness around the hotel.Main bar by restaurant staffed well and prompt service ..happy hour included.Restaurant staff willing to oblige if anything extra needed. A la carte restaraunt bookable and well worth a visit! Housekeeping staff especially Delta is worth a mention cheery freindly and kept our room perfect.Animation/ classes available provided by Abdel. aquaclass .yoga.Pilates. "Poncha" local drink demonstration given by Abdel who is proficient in all sports activities and very knowledgeable. Beautiful stay at this wonderful hotel.

    Nice location, close to porto and walking distance from old town. Direct view to sunrise. Garden with large variety of flowers, plants and birds. Nice swimming pool, but with cold water in February. Small garage with limited nr. of parking places, but i found free slots every day, probably due to daily fee and more tourists using agencies with buses, less with rental cars. Room temperature was bit cold.
