Location

This modern hotel combines modern comforts with a traditional, warm atmosphere. Situated close to the old town of Funchal, guests may enjoy fabulous views out over the sea and the city marina. Links to the public transport network may be reached on foot in just a few minutes as can the city centre (approximately 500 m from the hotel). Funchal's most beautiful squares and tourist sights may easily be reached, as can the city's museums, markets and gardens that offer an unparalleled Madeiran atmosphere. It is some 25 km to the international airport.

Facility

The hotel has 12 junior suites and 134 studios, which are located on 3 storeys and are reachable by lift. The reception desk is open round the clock. Amenities include a safe and a currency exchange service. Wireless internet access in public areas allows guests to stay connected. The hotel has a range of facilities for guests with disabilities. Wheelchair-accessible facilities are available. Souvenirs can be purchased at the gift shop. A garden provides extra space for rest and relaxation in the open air. Additional amenities include a newspaper stand and a TV room. A garage is available for parking (for a fee). Other services include medical assistance, a transfer service, room service, a laundry service and a hotel shuttle bus. Rooms

Rooms are equipped with air conditioning and central heating. Most units include a balcony with sea views, where guests can relax and linger a while. All rooms are carpeted and include a double bed. Meals

The dining area includes a bar. Guests can enjoy the culinary delights of the non-smoking, air-conditioned restaurant, which provides high chairs for children. Half board can be booked. A generous buffet awaits guests at breakfast and dinner. Alternatively, dinner can be ordered à la carte.

    This is a beautiful hotel with an excellent location on the seafront and lovely pool and sunbathing area. So central to the old town of Funchal, loads of restaurants etc mins away. Easy to access travel hubs within the Island, buses and the cable car. Hotel facilities are lovely and maintained to a very high standard. All staff were so pleasant and helpful a complete hassle free stay. Breakfast is excellent, dining room menu at night is a large set meal so we ate out. Lovely menu by the pool although finishes at 5pm in high season. We will return.

    Santa Maria is a fabulous hotel located in the heart of the old town and 50 metres from the main gondala station. Hotel is spotless and we found all staff that we came into contact with were brilliant - very friendly, helpfull and nothing was too much trouble.Breakfast offered an amazing choice and although we were booked on B&B terms, we decided to have dinner on our last night only to realise that we had missed out on the other nights of our stay as it was excellent!That said, there are so many super restauants in the old town, all within a short walk of the hotel.The only slight issue that some may have is that the pools, are relatively shallow.We would definitely return to this hotel.

    We have visited this hotel a number of times and it never disappoints. It is clean, comfortable and welcoming. The roof terrace is delightful, the breakfast buffet is excellent, the evening meals are very good. It is in a superb location, right next to the ocean, the cable car and the many great restaurants and shops in the old town.The staff could not be more helpful.

    This was our third time staying at the hotel. Our first visit was over 20 years ago when the hotel had recently opened and then 3 years ago. We love the location in the old town area of Funchal with many restaurants, bars and shops. Also, being close to the bus station and cable car makes getting around the island easy. The hotel is very well maintained, clean and spacious. Our comfortable sea view room overlooked the gardens and the port. Personally we would prefer a walk-in shower rather than an over bath one which can be difficult as mobility declines. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast had an excellent choice and we ate lunch poolside a few times which was very good too. Hope to stay again and definitely recommend the Santa Maria.
