  A special hotel and worthy of their 5* rating

  You can tell that this hotel is special as soon as you come up the drive to the main house. We had a great welcome and we were personally shown to our room, which was ready early.Pool Area - very good. A nice size outdoor pool, plenty of sun loungers, a gym, jacuzzi and saunaPool Bar - the most impressive pool bar I have ever seen with great views. Extensive menu that is not overpriced considering where you are stayingBreakfast - a very varied choice Dinner - we had dinner included which was served in the main restaurant. A set four course meal each night. The menu was published at breakfast so you could talk to the staff if there was something you didn’t like and they provided an alternative Rooms - we had a standard room. Very clean and beds very comfortable. The carpet in our room was dirty with what may have been blood. We spoke to reception and they moved us straight away which we really appreciatedService - the staff were amazing and are a credit to the hotel. Specifically the restaurant supervisor, head receptionist and pool guy!Gardens - these are beautiful and well looked after. Great for a stroll after dinner.We had a great time and hope to visit again in the future.

  Wonderful authentic hotel and garden with fantastic staff

  We spent a wonderful week here in February, and it was a fantastic stay from start to finish.The hotel's original architecture gives it a charming, distinctive atmosphere, the garden is an absolute haven, and the pool area boasts breathtaking views. The location is convenient too — within walking distance of Funchal centre (yes, there's a hill, but that's just Funchal), and with great public transport links right around the corner.Our room was comfortable and well-kept, though it could benefit from a little freshening up — there was a faint musty smell, and we did occasionally catch some sounds from neighbouring rooms. Minor points in the grand scheme of things.The real standout, though, was the people. Every single member of staff was warm, welcoming, and genuinely went out of their way to make us feel at home — truly top-notch hospitality. As for the food, breakfast was delicious, and the restaurant(s) kept that standard up throughout our stay.If you're looking for an experience that's full of character, stunning scenery, and heartfelt service, this is the place.   Very pleasant stay at this excellent hotel

  We spent a week at this delightful hotel and it was a relaxing and enjoyable stay. It is a well-maintained old school hotel, with extensive grounds and gardens. The room was spacious and well-appointed, with a balcony, and a powerful shower in the bathroom. The dining room was elegant, and the breakfasts were sumptuous and delicious, with a good spread, and the facility to have eggs made to order. The service was excellent.The hotel has a shuttle into town (central Funchal) and back at fixed times, which was very helpful. Convenient public transport options are available too, along with Bolt taxis.Lastly, I have to mention the reception staff who were very pleasant, friendly and helpful - Paula, Marta, Sofia and Hugo, thank you!   A very fine time was had, a lovely hotel.

  Location: The immediate location is a lovely setting, The gardens are not extensive but lawns, flowers, shrubs and trees are all around, and it is very peaceful. The area outside of the hotel is nothing to write home about, and is a fair distance from central Funchal. If you don't have your own transport, then there is a complimentary shuttle bus service into Funchal centre - which is necessary as you wouldn't want to walk it - but it doesn't run on weekends. Atmosphere: All very pleasant and tranquil. Rooms: The room we stayed in is large, and with a balcony, which commanded great views across to the mountains. It does have an old style feel about it, but that is not a negative, the bathroom is great, plenty big enough, contemporary look and feel, with shower over the bath. The bed was absolutely massive. Value: We paid just over £2K for seven nights, so just under £300 a night, and the price includes a very nice breakfast buffet, so probably just about right for a 5 star hotel, given the particular room that we had, and all that the hotel had to offer. Cleanliness: Couldn't be faulted. Noise Level: Tranquil and peaceful, birds chirping etc, although there must be a children's school close by, with associated playground noises but it kind of added to the convivial feel. Service: Brilliant, staff were amazing, warm and friendly at all times, who couldn't do enough for us. A very special touch was, on my wife's birthday, completely by surprise, a bottle of cold, sparkling wine was delivered to our room, courtesy of the management. A really nice touch, very much appreciated. (not everyone is going to get that of course!) Amenities: you would need to check the hotel details for all the amenities on offer, but we did take advantage of the swimming pool, gym, restaurant and room service, all of which we can recommend. So, to summarise, we had a great stay and would definitely recommend this hotel.   Highly recommend this 5* Hotel

  Walking up the cobblestone driveway, our view of Quinta da Bela Vista in beautifully maintained gardens with a pond outside the entrance into reception. We continued to be very pleased throughout our week stay. All of the staff are very professional and absolutely lovely people. Our booking was B&B but we also had a meal in the pool bar the restaurant and Manor House, where service was fabulous. Although some days were cloudy we still made use of the outdoor pool area and sun loungers. The building is very well maintained, our room was spacious with a balcony on the front of the hotel overlooking Funchal.
