Location

Located near the tourist centre of Câmara de Lobos (Funchal), this luxury hotel is situated close to the vineyards less than 4 km from the city centre. The nearest beach is a few kilometres away and a good selection of restaurants, bars and links to the public transport network are to be found within 1 km of the hotel. Various bars and nightclubs lie about 7 km away.

Facility

The hotel was built in 1914. Guests have a choice of 2 suites and 46 double rooms located in two 3-storey buildings with lifts. Multilingual staff (English, German, French) at the reception desk in the lobby are ready to assist you with check-in and check-out. Amenities include a baggage storage service, safe, currency exchange service and drinks machine. Wireless internet access allows guests to stay connected while on holiday. The tour desk offers assistance with booking excursions. The hotel offers various facilities for guests with disabilities. Wheelchair-accessible facilities are available. A garden provides extra space for rest and relaxation in the open air. Additional facilities include a library. Guests arriving by car can park their vehicles in the garage or in the car park.     The hotel was built in 1999 and hasn't been renovated since. It's clean but quite worn. The staff is very helpful. Breakfast is decent, but dinner is very average. The hotel is over an hour's walk from the beach. There are plenty of shops and bars nearby.

    Definitely not 5*more like 2 * Staff polite and pleasant, Hallways : Carpets are torn with all joints split, Bedroom: seriously needs painting And walls need filling . Bathroom: sealant needs replacing and drains are filthy. Balcony: concrete bits everywhere and 2” bar left dangling. Pool area: filthy around pool with broken tiles , 1 foot hole , not filled in ,Bar only open from 3-7 day , nothing in the evening, Restaurants : Same menu for the 7 days ,Al la carte horrid and expensive , Not even a Al la Carte, just food on plate. Beds not made properly, sheets hanging on the floor not tucked in and Ants around , Very poor quality all round , Spa :not working no water in it and definitely not heated pool

    This is advertised as 5 starNo bar after 7pmRooms old and datedFood horriblePool dirtyCarpets threadbareTowels old and worn with holes inUp a very steep hill so if your not driving this is not goodOnly saving grace is that the staff are helpful and nice. And there's fantastic views from the rooms.

    Well received by friendly front of house. The basic room was clean but short of towels which were supplied quickly but were well used and thin with repair patches. Pleasant balcony with sea view over well stoked gardens of flora and fauna. The hotel generally quite tired and in need of upgrade asap. The swimming pool area on level 4 was excellent with a pleasant pool bar and quite delightful views over the fishing village.The breakfast buffet was excellent and well stocked from 0730 until 1030.The dinner food was very poor and even though we complained almost immediately on the the poor preparation of the mackerel dish, there was no offer of a different dish and the management refused to deduct a barely touched plate and we were asked to pay anyway, which we did to avoid unpleasantness.We enjoyed our short break but will not use that hotel again.

    I recommend this place if searching for where to stay near funchal. However this place was affected by covid just like any other place so afew things need to be fixed fan needed in rooms gym need to reopen. They have cleane swimming pool and sauna local buses available for transport. Food expensive slightly cheap if paid in advance when booking hotel. Near by shops available it is a quiet place with good customer service.
