  I stayed on vilas Maria and i enjoyed so much, Madeira is a great place so beautiful.The apartment us great had everything what we need very clean and the staff us so helpful and friendly and Tânia the housekeeping she is always with a smile ready to help any question asked,what a delightful person.Thank you Vilas Maria for everything and to make our stay so pleasant.   Great apartments, good location, great service from Teresa. The place is located close to the fútbol stadium and a short ride from the downtown. The only issue we encountered was the dogs barking often at night. Bring your ear plugs.

  We stayed here for 10 nights. It´s location is a 15 minute bus ride (the number 45) from the center of Funchal and is away from the noise of the big hotels, bars and restaurants. The complex consists of 8 apartments each with its own private terrace. The furniture is a little old-fashioned but the place is absolutely spotless. It was my birthday during our stay and to my surprise, there was a complimentary bottle of Madira wine on the table with a lovely little note from the owners....a really nice and personal touch.

  Great find, so glad we tried it

  We have been to Madeira many times now, as just love the place, people and food; we've stayed in various places from 3* to 5* hotels, self catering to all inclusive. I hope this review is not too long but I like to know as much as possible about the place I'm going to stay, so here goes. We booked through booking.com, so was worried about getting here and not having anywhere to stay, as I had read reviews on other places and people had that problem on arrival but there was no need to worry. I had contacted Helene to ask about possibility of an iron so knew she had our booking. On our arrival we were met by Helene who showed us to our apartment, No7, which was absolutely spotless. On way in there is a small patio, with a table and two chairs, a parasol is available stored by side of sofa. We were very lucky that the sun was on our patio for most of day, so just moved around in the afternoon to make most of the sun. The apartment was exactly as shown in the photos, out the back door is a very small yard with a clothes airer fixed to the wall, which was great for drying our clothes. Everything else was as described in previous reviews but will add that yes there are lots of dogs in the area, they do bark as they are kept outside and sometimes it is annoying but even when we stayed at the Pestana Palms we had dogs barking through the night. We saw no sign of ants, maybe the wrong time of year but my hubby was bitten by a mozzie while out. Our housekeeper saw the bite spray and later that day a mozzie plug was installed; she also saw that my hubby had used a sofa cushion, as the pillows are rather flat, so an extra pillow was on bed that evening. It seemed whatever we needed appeared without us having to ask. Don't know what polish was used on the floor but it turned our socks orange, but it did get less as our stay went on. My husband's bed wasn't as comfortable as mine, it felt like you were going to roll out of it and made very strange noises when he turned over, which did disturb my sleep. The only other down side were the wardrobe doors, if you didn't make sure it was completely shut after getting your clothes out, it would spring back in your face but these are only minor problems, which did not affect our stay. We loved the place and the area, as we got to meet many locals and we were away from tourists so could pretend we lived there. There are many nice places to eat, the local cafe was great, plates of food were 4.5E, amazing value and Casa Da Sogra was a great fine too. Turning right out of our road, there is a lovely walk up the hill where you can sit and over look the harbour. There are several levada walks close by and lots of little roads to explore. There are several shortcuts into town, rather than walking around the stadium but must admit we got the 45 bus back from town. We are so pleased we tried these apartments,always hard going to somewhere we don't know and having to reply on reviews. We look at it as you can't please all people all of the time, but must say we highly recommend this place and will be back later in the year

  Lovely place to stay

  I and my husband spent there a wonderful 9 days. The appartment has everything for comfortable living and we also cooked a few times, because we are not quite a fans of eating in restaurants every day. Were afraid will be not enough equipment for cooking, but we were happy we did not miss everything, someone was very smart and put all the things people may need in the appartment. Maid Teresa is a true angel on Earth, so as owner Helena too. While we were there it was a football game that Ronaldo played. We had a great view on the match from the parking in front of our house. But we were warned from Teresa and Helena, to return home a few hours before game, otherwise we could not park, people from Madeira occupate all the free places nearby the stadium. Wifi worked fast. We went to the town by foot. Backward it is really uphill....but....it did not harm us. Also we went to Lido restaurants on our own foot, it is not so far away. To the store we went always by car. Without navigation in our car we would be dead. The appartment was very clean, towels soft and I slept very well in that bed. In fact...if we will go to Madeira agsin, I will return to Vilas Maria.
