Location

This holiday village is just 30 metres from a mini-market and 500 metres from the bus stop, while it is just 4 km to the centre of the village of Ponta do Sol, with its beach, pharmacy, taxi rank, health care centre, shopping centre, post office, banks with ATMs, and restaurants. The Museu de Arte Contemporânea da Madeira is a 30-minute drive from the country house and the tourist centre of Calheta is just 20 minutes by car. Funchal - Madeira Airport is approximately 60 km from the hotel and Porto Airport is around 40 km away.

Facility

Guests have a choice of 15 non-smoking rooms. The friendly staff at the reception desk are happy to answer any questions. Amenities include a baggage storage service and a safe.     Wonderful boutique hotel in old mansion. Up in the hills it has wonderful views, fantastic rooms and common areas and an outstanding breakfast. Loved staying here.

    We all loved this hotel. It has lots of character, like going back to the 1930s, charming rooms and beautiful furniture. Everything is good; the stunning views, the breakfast and the wonderful staff. Stand out staff member is Judy, really made our stay extra special. One thing to note, you MUST have a car!

    The location is amazingly located with beautiful views. For the rainy days it is super comfy to just hangout in the beautiful house and it's spacious living room. The fact is has to be absolutely highlighted!! The breakfast and dinner ist outstanding quality and for the prices just incomparable. The stuff is super nice and supportive.     Absolutely fantastic! Perfect location, fabulous staff! Clean and modern rooms. Fresh and tasty breakfast. Free wifi ,free port at reception,which was a brilliant touch. Was lovely to watch the people go by,from the window and we could listen to the local music too. Everything was accessible within a minutes walk. We will be back!     We took it for our last two nights to relax and enjoy stunning ocean views from the pool and the balcony. We spent one whole day doing nothing but swimming, having sauna, drinks and the dinner at Villa Alta and it was simply fantastic. After 5 days driving around the island it was really nice to laid back over there and doing nothing but relaxing. The villa is charming and has a character, every room there has its own style, whether it is bar, main lounge with chimney, restaurant or your own room. It makes you want to spend some time in each area and feel the atmosphere. There is a honesty bar where you serve yourself with local drinks and leave notes what you consumed. Basically, the whole idea is built on trust, so you can feel like you stay at your own house. It is simply cool, I wish there would be more hotels like this. The staff is extremely kind and helpful, ladies helped us to feel maximum comfort and were very attentive to our requests. Breakfast is reach and tasty, every day they offer something new, which is good. You can book dinner in advance as well, there is a menu for every day so you can decide whether you dine there or going somewhere else. Dinner is simple but tasty, we were satisfied. We would be happy to come back one day and experience the highest hospitality and kindness of the people working there for you. We had a great time, thank you, Villa Alto!In our room was a carpet which I would throw away as it has stains and dirty spots, it ruins a bit an impression of a room in general which is stylish and has a character of old times. Jacuzzi in the pool area was out of the order. We called the phone given at the reception and on the webpage 4 times during the day and only on 5th time somebody answered later in the evening. Do not wait that somebody will come down to the reception if you ring the bell, ladies have lots of work and simply cannot come immediately, better go and find them, it will be faster. Getting there is not the easiest way but it worth it after all, roads are quite steep, so you better be careful, not driving too fast. Parking is small and requires some skills to getting in and out. Maybe easier to leave your car outside. Best way to rent a car with automatic gear, yes, you pay more but trust me, it will save you so much nerves driving at Madeira. It will pay off in the end.
