  Great Location, Disappointing Stay

  I really wanted to like this hotel, as it has a great location in Gerês and looks appealing at first glance. However, the experience didn’t match the price. I don’t typically write hotel reviews, but there were enough issues that I wish I had known about beforehand that I felt it was important to share them for future guests.The biggest issue was logistics and basic functionality. Parking is not on-site, so I had to stop, unload luggage, and then park quite a distance away. Not ideal, especially after a long day of travel.Unfortunately, it didn’t improve from there. The elevator was out of service, and I was placed on the third floor. I had specifically requested a quiet room at the end of the hall, but was assigned a room directly beside the service elevator—which, ironically, was being used to repair the main elevator. There was constant noise, and no real resolution when I raised the issue. I was told it would be fixed shortly, but it was still not working the next day. There were also frequent banging noises and voices from below, which did not appear to be related to the elevator and has been mentioned by other reviewers as well.After waiting, I eventually had to carry my luggage up and down three flights of stairs myself. I had been hiking all afternoon and needed access to my belongings and was told nothing by the hotel staff. While the room itself was nicely furnished, comfortable and clean, the windows were so poorly insulated that it sounded like they were open. I could hear everything outside clearly. For a hotel at this price point, that’s simply not acceptable.WiFi was essentially non-existent, and I had to rely on cell data the entire time. While this can happen in older hotels, it’s something guests should be aware of.I’ve stayed in much cheaper hotels with significantly better sound insulation, internet, and more accommodating service. Even at a similar price point, I found the São Bento Hotel nearby to be far more comfortable and convenient. For the price, I expected a much smoother and more comfortable stay. We work daily to provide excellent service and positive experiences for our guests.Regarding the elevator, it was experiencing a temporary malfunction, which we addressed as quickly as possible, and it was operating again the following day. As we are located in the heart of Gerês, technical assistance response times may be longer. Additionally, we are a seasonal hotel, and your stay coincided with our reopening period.As for the external noise, it is possible that the windows were not fully closed, which may have affected sound insulation.Concerning parking, as stated in the hotel description on our website and across all our partners, we offer a private, complimentary parking area for guests, located approximately 300 meters from the hotel. As this is a building dating from the early 20th century, its architecture did not allow for on-site parking, and as we are located within the Peneda-Gerês National Park, there are legal restrictions regarding construction.Had these matters been reported to the reception during your stay, we would have promptly sought to provide an appropriate solution.The Team – Águas do Gerês Hotel, Termas & Spa.

  Clean, and so comfortable for our stay !

  My mother and i booked a two night stay at the Aguas Do Geres Hotel and Thermal Spa in mid June 2025 on a trip to visit Geres National Park, Portugal's hidden gem. The location was perfectly central for all the activities we had planned ( hiking, and exploring some of the ancient villages of the north.) The day of check in we had hiked for 4 hours prior to arriving to our hotel, so we were tired, and looking forward to a shower. When we arrived, the check-in clerk promptly issued our room keys, and we were able to head up to our room very quickly to get settled in. The hotel its self is beautiful. Out of all the places we staying on this Portugal trip, this was by far my favorite. It has an oldschool charm, but very modern. The rooms were spotless, and very spacious. The bed and pillows were SUPER comfortable. Everything about the facility was amazing. The pool is not on site, it is in the park across the street which you get free passes to access, however if you were going here just for the pool, that might be something to consider. It didnt bother us, as we had a beautiful walk through the park to get there, and really enjoyed the scenery there ! The location is perfect. It is right on the main street, with lots of food options near by, and parking up the hill. It was easy to access the other villages we explored from here as well. Breakfast was a lovely spread at their buffet with diet friendly options, and a good variety of food options. We got 10% off at the thermal spa, so we could go enjoy a soak in the thermal pool and also got a massage. Overall, i would give this place 10 stars if i could! We had a lovely stay and i hope to go back one day.

  A three-star hotel, where the sympathy of the employees is exceptional! It is a cosy, comfortable hotel with nice living rooms and good rooms! The breakfast is complete, and the dinner is very delicious! All the employees are very friendly!For us, the negative point is the Termas & Spa, which is located outside the hotel. Crossing the street on a winter or rainy day is not pleasant when heading to the Termas. I will still recommend this hotel!

  Wonderful staff !Food incredible!Hotel very good!Nice parks to visit A lot of tours with nice landscapes.I visit every year !The termal SPA good Massages and water treatment are very good !Meal option diet or normal meal both are fantastic !

  Enjoyable hotel in a mountain town

  The hotel is well kept, very clean and our bed was most comfortable. A comfortable bed is a key requirement for my wife and me. The hotel is tastefully decorated. The staff spoke English well and satisfied every request promptly. The in-house restaurant offered a satisfactory breakfast and the dinner we had was very good. We visited the spa (which is across the street) and enjoyed the waters. We will stay there again when we return to Geres.
