Beautiful relaxed county house available for hikers (for example InnTravel)

    rating12 Oct 2025

We had an informal check in in this fabulous renovated County House. Formerly owned by Portugese nobility. The rooms were very large and clean with a great view of the countryside. There was complimentary water and toiletries in the room. Complimentary tea and coffee was also available on request. The only issue was the internet. The wifi was poor in the rooms and the House.Breakfast and evening meals were served in the large dining room at a large table with the other guests. This was a pleasant experience. The evening meal was home cooked and served with complimentary wine. The breakfast was buffet style with fresh tea, coffee and juices. You had the option of freshly cooked scrambled egg if required.

    Peaceful

    rating03 Aug 2023

This was a great experience! We stayed two nights in July during our hike. It is, I think, a popular place for hikers but not many hike in mid-summer so it was very quiet. One of the nights we were the only guests there. It is an old country house and the few rooms are all unique. Old furniture and a lovely old-world charm and feel. It is like stepping into a different age. It is not luxury per se but the charm more than makes up for it. The rooms are very large, our bathroom was also big. It was a bathtub but the shower was really good (good pressure, plenty of hot water). Very large towels (always a big plus in my book). There were no tissues, no fridge, and no electric kettle. The food is somewhat old-fashioned and not sophisticated but that kind of suits the place and the atmosphere.A very different experience than a standard hotel – I warmly recommend it.

A relaxing stay in a lovely and welcoming place

    rating16 Jun 2023

We stayed two nights at this historic and unique house. Our host, Constanza, could not do enough to make us feel at home and tell us all about the surrounding villages and things to see. We were hiking in the area and a comfortable and friendly place to stay was just what we needed. The food was varied, local and delicious

    A very specialplace to stay.

This is a very special place to stay if you are walking/touring the hinterland of the Duoro Valley. The building is very romantic, our room had a lovely view over the vineyards,a delicious home cooked dinner is served at 7.30 pm with wine which you eat with the other guests- who were all a joy to get to know! Constanza was a friend of the owner who was away, and she couldn't have done a better job looking after us all- so kind, friendly and thoughtful- thank you very much! Just a quick note to anyone thinking of walking in this stunning area- the other guests were on self guided walking holidays with walking notes and apps which informed you if you were on the wrong track. There are few signposts, infact for most of the time we didn't see any. We had just Google Maps/Wikiloc Maps and a handheld GPS which didn't seem to show all the tracks. We managed it,but did get lost a bit, so if you don't have the self guiding apps, do a reasonable amount of preparation!

Small practically perfect hotel! Beautiful secluded old but very comfortable house, fantastic food, excellent sandwiches in the packed lunch. Christina is a wonderful host, warm, efficient, great attention to detail.
