    The bar.

    rating29 Mar 2026

My review is about the bar only. The most boring elevator music..apparently chosen by the _ or a _ director and it is always the same. Elevator music in its most boring ever. Pool table has only one stick, the other one is waiting for glue. Awfull light. This is a 5 star hotel! Has anyone heard about great jazz and funky lights? Talk about a plan for not selling booze... really sad. Spectacular views

    rating06 Oct 2025

As part of a tour group I personally felt that the drive to and from this hotel was a bit daunting, especially in a large bus. The views are certainly beautiful but if you are not keen on high twisty roads then this one is not for you. The hotel was comfortable and the breakfast was very good. Dinner, buffet style was of a good standard with a fair amount of choice. There were tea and coffee making facilities in the room, but no milk was provided. There is a spa and reasonably priced, but no facial on offer , only massage. If you like to wake up to spectacular views, look no further. JASE - Empreendimentos Turísticos, Guest Services / Front Office at Douro Palace Hotel Resort & Spa, responded to this review Dear Joycetalks,We are delighted that you enjoyed the comfort of the hotel, the good breakfast and buffet dinner, and especially the spectacular views of the Douro Valley at Douro Palace Hotel Resort & SPA. The spa and in-room tea and coffee facilities also contributed to a relaxing and enjoyable stay. For guests who love waking up to breathtaking scenery and a peaceful atmosphere, this is the perfect destination. We also note your observation regarding the drive to the hotel. The Douro Valley is a unique and scenic area, and the roads reflect the beauty and character of the region. Your feedback is appreciated as we continue to enhance the experience for our guests. We hope to welcome you back for another memorable stay soon.Sincerely,Daniela Valente

    Beautiful hotel but lacking something

    rating13 Jul 2025

It's a bit of a white knuckle ride on the roads leading to the hotel. Once there, the views are spectacular. The building itself was clean, modern and of a high standard, and so where the rooms. Our room had a great view of the Douro from the balcony. You could walk around the grounds, exploring the vineyards and a small farm area. The pool had the same great views and plenty of sun loungers. There were a few negatives and from what i could tell they were down to staffing issues. The service was slow in the bar and for snacks. Some of the restaurant staff seemed a bit lost at what to do. The pool bar was closed even though the pool was very busy, and you were not allowed to take drinks from the main bar to the pool. I don't think I've ever known that in a hotel with a pool before, and they must have lost a lot of money. Also, my wife had mobility issues at the time and the pool was difficult for her to get to as it was on a level below the main building and had steps and a bank to get down there.

Tilts at greatness but just misses

    rating29 Jun 2025

Good points: Fairly modern design; good food; excellent views across the valley; extremely isolated location (if you seek that); great bar staff; unadvertised impromptu seaplane airshow, fridge in room.Bad points: Disorganised restaurant staff lacking direction, leadership and confidence (two staff excepted); room quite compact; bathroom door swollen, squeaky, and difficult to close (see photo); dirty saucer in crockery cupboard (see photo); extremely isolated location with nothing useful nearby; windy narrow roads on the long journey from civilisation. Summary: Pretty good, but some elements need improving.

    Very Nice- Peaceful

    rating31 May 2024

We were on a Country Roads of Portugal trip and stayed one night. The drive through the Douro Valley to arrive at the hotel was nothing short of breathtaking beauty. Our room was nice but one floor up had a much better view of the river-- we could see the river but another part of the hotel structure was smack in front of us. We loved walking around the ground and also to see all their animals. The pool was nice. The hotel is pretty isolated but if you are looking to get away for some relaxation this could be the spot. The breakfast was good as was the bar where we had a sandwich and chips.....great service in the bar. JASE - Empreendimentos Turísticos, Guest Services / Front Office at Douro Palace Hotel Resort & Spa, responded to this review Dear pupepause,Thank you for the time spent sending this review about your recent stay with us.
