If you love historic hotels, this art nouveau is for you

    rating02 Jun 2026

This hotel is near the center of Porto. Many of the sights you'd want to see are within easy walking distance. There are great restaurants, a huge open market, a Fado Lounge and good shopping within a few minutes. This historic Art Nouveau hotel has been preserved from top to bottom. The interior and furnishings are period. the hallways, right down to the wallpaper are period. Your room will be period. Even though the rooms have decor from another era, everything in them is modern, clean and up to date. Take time to sit in the bar and the library or even in the lobby. The only strike on this hotel is the food. The breakfast is mediocre, the dinner not good. Two doors down is a wonderful bakery with coffee, pastries and more. Try the Majestic Cafe for lunch or dinner - it's expensive but the aesthetics are incredible and the food is sublime.

Great hotel in the shopping district

    rating05 May 2026

Grand hotel in the main shopping centre. Next to the fabulous food market and 500 meters from the station so easy to catch the train to the airport. Staff really friendly and helpful, breakfast a variety and adequate for a day's sightseeing. Hotel spotless, bar quirky and tasty cocktails. Rooms clean, standard quite small so if I was to return I'd pay extra for a larger room and bigger bed. 15 minute walk to the river. Overall a really good stay and would recommend.

Grand by name and Grand by nature

    rating25 Apr 2026

We booked the Grand Porto for a three night city break following seeing the favourable reviews and it didn’t disappoint The hotel is well placed for all the local shops and sights Inside it is indeed grand and has a lovely atmosphere enhanced by the staff all of whom were so friendly and helpful Breakfast was the usual fare you find in most hotels although the restaurant is spectacular A couple of things to enhance your visit. A bath mat in the bath as it was quite slippery Softer pillows but to be fair we told reception about this and they changed them immediately A kettle in the room would be nice All in all a great find and I would fully recommend it for a city break in Porto

    Not a Good Value

    rating17 Apr 2026

This is a fairly modern hotel in a good location, but I think it is having serious management issues. First, when we arrived the keys were not working, so we were given just one "emergency" key. This meant that my wife and I did not both get keys. Second, we were not able to get an invoice either upon arrival or upon departure. The staff promised to email us one, but it never arrived. Third, there was only one person on duty at the desk when we were trying to check out, and she seemed totally incapable of dealing with a payment issue for another customer. Meanwhile, we were waiting and waiting, and feared we would miss our train. Fourth, the included breakfast was exactly the same every day, and did not feature much variety. But, you could get something better, if you were willing to pay extra! Fifth, the room was not thoroughly cleaned every day. Sixth, a number of things were broken in the room, including the sink drain and the toilet seat. Seventh, the "family room"we booked was far too small for a family, so we had to get our daughter her own room. Eighth, you had to pay for coffee in the room, if you wanted a cup. This constitutes "nickel and diming" to death. I imagine there are better places to stay in Porto.
