    Pretty bad

    rating04 Aug 2024

This hotel changed management and is now similar to an AirBnb but is booked through websites used to book hotel rooms (booking/hotels.com). We stayed there in July 2024 in the “One bedroom apartment” and it was horrible. One of the beds was bare (only mattress) when we arrived, and we had to wait until the next day to get a blanket and sheets for it. The AC was broken and they refused to fix it. It was 28 degrees in our room at night. Communication with management was only over WhatsApp.

    Lovely hotel, perfect location

    rating25 Oct 2022

We are two couples, staying in two rooms. All of us were impressed with the hotel & it's location. We would all stay here againReis de Gaia is an apartment style hotel with a kitchenette within the rooms. The hotel has been beautifully refurbished in recent years. The decor is modern, but the character of the original building has been retained. Lovely touches include exposed stone walls and (remade) original hardwood bannisters & staircase. Our friends stayed on the top floor with a balcony and superb views across to Porto from their bed! (well worth the extra cost of the room). The rooftop terrace with plungepool is not yet officially open, but we were allowed to use it. The views are fantastic & it is a jewel that delights. Likewise there is a bar/ restaurant & spa that are not yet open. The staff are very friendly & welcoming. The hotel location is excellent, being just a short level (slight hill) walk from the river front in Vila Nova de Gaia. The Vila Nova side of the river provides great views of Porto, is the heart of the Port/Wine district with related tours, attractions restaurants & bars. The area is more relaxed than the Porto side. You can get to Porto by walking over the bridge, which has both high & low level options. Walking to the high level bridge is challenging, but you can take the cable car if you don't want to walk. The ferry will also take you across the river for €3 (2022).In summary, a lovely hotel, caringly refurbished with friendly staff & in a great location

    Clean, Central, Comfortable

    rating15 Jul 2022

Don’t let outward appearances deceive you - behind the hotel door on a hilly side street is a clean and friendly place to stay in a central location. Ana at the front desk went out of her way to ensure a nice stay. Her recommendations and directions were great and she answered our many questions about the area. Take the time to stop at the many cafes and stores along the street down to to river. The view from our windows was beautiful and our two bedroom room was large and clean and comfortable. We hope to return.

Excellent service & value in Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto

    rating26 Jun 2022

Stayed 2 nights with husband and 2 children (ages 7 and 10). This was an excellent location and very comfortable accommodations. One tip: don't bother with a car in Porto! We rented one when we arrived (Hertz Porto airport was amazing), but it stayed parked for the 2.5 days - parking and driving in Porto is too crazy! Walking is the only way to truly experience the city.
