Location

This pleasing hotel enjoys a peaceful location on São Felix Mountain. Almost all the rooms in the hotel offer a stunning view. The airport is roughly 30 km away, the centre of Póvoa de Varzim is around 6 km away and the beach is also 6 km from the hotel. Public transport is situated just 5 km from the hotel. Shopping opportunities and restaurants are to be found 3 km away and bars as well as taverns are roughly 5 km away.

    If you don’t have a car it’s far off everything. You do have a nice view but that’s all about it. The staff were unfriendly which was unsual for Portugal which made us move hotels the same day. Rooms were old and not very neat. There were no kettle’s except the superior rooms which weren’t superior in my opinion. We were charged for the first night of our booking but it was worth the move. No gym. it takes forever for an Uber to come up there. Anyways surely not going back there.

    hotel in a lovely location but sadly it is in need of some serious TLC.. the outside paint is peeling paint. inside is dated, breakfast is basic.pool is clean, staff are pleasant, service is slow, dining carpets were tripping hazardsI wouldn’t recommend a stay here unless you want the location as views are amazing

    This is a nice hotel with good rooms. It is located outside Povoa do Varzim, in a nearby village. Situated at the top of a small mountain, it offers a great view of the landscape. There is nothing to do around, so a car is mandatory if you stay there.Breakfast was good with a reasonable selection and ample quantity. The hotel also offers a pool room where you can play for free.We visited in autumn, so we didn't have the chance to try the swimming pool.

    Although a little dated in terms of the décor, this hotel more than makes up for that with its great views of the surrounding countryside; the friendliness of the staff; the food (particularly the evening menu) and very fair pricing. Didn’t manage a dip in the pool myself, but my pals gave it the thumbs up…and if you fancy a game of snooker, that’s available too. All in all, there’s nothing obvious I could fault with this picturesque hotel.

    Truely historic!! Old worn Estalagem completely overpriced - don't stay here even the good reviews here

    This hotel was part of the earlier state-owned "Estalagem" (hostel, Inn) and potentially firstly opened in the 1970 still during Salazar or shortly later? At least this place is from times Portugal was trying to pioneer turism business (by state). Yes the location with the views is great - but that's unfortunately all (free views you'll have from the Sao Felix church as well).Many of such historic Estalagems have been closed down in recent years mainly because the new owners (after state has left the tourism business and e.g. Pousadas to Pestana) didn't want to invest and the places showed their age. So the left over Estalagems were available for last 2 centuries around 40-50€/night! Tradionally in Portugal breakfast is included and al of the Estalagems has special views and perks (like a pool). However after the pandemic the management of this place thinks rates around 100-150€ are reasonable for the same old rooms. Yes, some parts of the bathroom and maybe the AC seem to be renewed (not the hairdryer e.g.!!), but the first mistake is done at the reception (behind the desk visible to all guest as welcome). The remaining decor in the rooms is worne (not from 1975 but maybe 1995), the carpets are completely worn, though are minibar, cupboards etc. Building is in poor shape, Pools are historiceBreakfast was below average and remember that -since 2023 - the comunal city want a direct contribution from all guests per day 1,5€, which is a joke: most of the streets are still noisy cobblestones - this money does direclty to wrong channels!I'd recommend not even to think any second to stay in this place except you want to invest your valued money in a truely historic experience which will at the end be a disappointment!
