Location

Perfect for those in need of an adults-only holiday, this hostel/youth hostel is located about 800 m from the centre of Vila Nova de Gaia. Porto (OPO) Airport is 12 km away.

Facility

The friendly staff at the reception desk are happy to answer any questions. A baggage storage service and a safe are available. Wireless internet access allows guests to stay connected while on holiday. The hostel offers a range of facilities for guests with disabilities. A lift and wheelchair-accessible facilities are available. Additional amenities include a TV room and a playroom. Guests arriving by car can park their vehicles in the garage or in the car park. Further services and facilities include a 24-hour security service, a car hire service, a transfer service, room service, a laundry service and a hotel shuttle bus. Active guests can make use of the bicycle hire service to explore the surrounding area. A fax machine is available for guests' business needs.

Rooms

Air conditioning and central heating ensure that rooms maintain comfortable temperatures. Rooms have a double bed or a queen-size bed. Extra beds can be requested.     Stayed 4 nights in a river view suite with a fabulous view across the river to Porto. The very clean room was great with comfy bed and large bathroom. Breakfast was very nice and served fresh. Location was great. Reception staff very helpful. Cleaning staff excellent. 10/10😁

    Zero empathy – beautiful building, ugly heart

    I'm extremely disappointed with Sandeman House. I will never return. I was in the middle of a move. I contacted the hostel beforehand and asked if I could bring a bicycle inside a box plus a surfboard. They said yes – the box could stay in the female dorm. But I ran out of time to pack the bike and had no other way to reach the hostel, so I rode it there and arrived at 10 PM, exhausted and on the verge of fainting. I explained the situation and asked if they could let me keep the bike inside – since they had already approved the bike inside a box. The answer was a hard NO. No empathy. The guy at reception (António) didn't care about my state. He would have rather sent me back across the river on stone streets. I was about to cry. The irony? The hostel is decorated with real bikes on the walls. They have space. They chose not to help. António gave me a 20-minute sermon on rules instead of taking me to my room. I had to cut him off. The staff is arrogant. Zero hostel atmosphere – feels like a 5-star museum with 1-star hospitality. They also charge a separate municipal tax in cash upon arrival, even though Hostelworld said "taxes included." Dishonest. I paid 30 euros for a few hours of sleep. The building is beautiful, beds comfortable. But that's it. Beautiful building full of arrogant people. If you're tired of tourists, don't take it out on me. I left Portugal furious. Save your money. Go somewhere with kind people.

    A very nice hostel, nice and comfortable beds, it was able to draw curtains to get more privacy, fresh toilets, good towels and bedsheets. Nice personell and very good breakfast. Perfect location near to the Don Luis-bridge as well as all the port wines houses. Cozy place and a very good value for the price.

    Hi,I rarely ever give comments but I had truly great stay at Sandeman Hostel.Location is great, the house itself is beautiful renovated, the cleaning Ladies makes the place cleaner than hospital operation room... Staff is Super friendly and helpful. And price, inclusive small breakfast, could be easily double and still reasonable.P.s. Special thanks to Marta. It was pleasure observing her passion at work paying attention to the details and her guest friendly orientated aproach to every person. Marta is an amazing Person/Staff member.     Best place to stay in a trip to Porto

    What a place to stay, we stayed in one of the river view rooms and woke up every morning opened the shutters and had the best outlook you could. My wife stated it is one of the few places she has been where she felt comfortable from the outset. Staff were attentive and very friendly and helpful. Location second to none, comfort 10/10,
