    Birthday Stay

    rating26 Jan 2026

I stayed at Vidago Palace Hotel for three nights to celebrate my birthday, and it was truly the BEST—I’m already making plans to return in the fall for harvest season! This hotel has absolutely everything you could imagine: incredible restaurants, a beautiful spa, tennis courts, pools, and stunning grounds that are perfect for exploring and soaking in the scenery. We dined at the wine cellar restaurant and the lobby bar, and both meals were exceptional—delicious, memorable, and perfectly paired with the overall experience.I visited the spa every single day and even enjoyed a sports massage, which I highly recommend—especially coming from someone who is very picky about massages. The service throughout the hotel was fantastic, but they truly went above and beyond to make my birthday special, even surprising me with a chocolate cake at breakfast. Such a thoughtful and personal touch. The highlight of our trip was Angelo from Concierge—he arranged an incredible wine tour where we visited two wineries and enjoyed a delicious lunch. It was seamless, curated, and unforgettable.Honestly, just book it—you won’t regret it. I’m already counting down the days until I return! A destination not to be missed!

    rating11 Nov 2025

What a remarkable visit! From the moment we were greeted at the spectacular entrance, to the time we departed, this was an unforgettable experience. The luxury of the palace was evident everywhere. Our room was spacious with a comfortable king sized bed and a spectacular view of the mountains. The bathroom was vintage style with updated amenities. Every space was immaculately clean. We had superb cocktails in a beautiful lounge festooned with magnificent silk light fixtures. Dinner in the ballroom was a delightful event. Again, the attention to the needs of every guest was unsurpassed. The meals were as delicious as they were appealing to the eyes. This is a special hotel, a destination not just a place to sleep. Beautiful

    rating26 Sept 2025

This is a beautiful hotel in the old style with some great up to date additions. The grounds and frontage to this hotel are magnificent and service is top notch. Our room was large and well equipped with an excellent bathroom.I thought the outdoor pool area was great and I was sorry I didn’t have time to experience the spa.The food and drinks in the lobby bar were very good but I think the menu there should be expanded as not everyone wants to eat in the fancy dining room.Breakfast was excellent and the breakfast room was beautiful. There were so many things in this hotel that I wanted to take home it was amazing! Agência BrandChoice, Agência/Consultor at Vidago Palace Hotel, responded to this review Thank you very much for your wonderful review. Very good

    rating24 Sept 2025

A super place to stay located remotely in its own grounds.Room was nicely appointed but the general areas and staircase are magnificent. The breakfast was delightful set in a fantastic dining room. Staff all very helpful. Only slight warning is the prices in the grand ballroom are a bit on the high side and to be charged €5 for sharing a dish is a bit ott. Agência BrandChoice, Agência/Consultor at Vidago Palace Hotel, responded to this review Dear Guest,Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are delighted to know that your stay at Vidago Palace Hotel was so enjoyable and that you appreciated the beauty of our spaces and the attentiveness of our team. Think carefully about what experience you are looking for. It may not suit all.

    rating31 Aug 2025

The hotel has grace and charm and is properly and fairly described as 5*. It is expensive . It has all the amenities it boasts, including a golf course. We found the staff very friendly and helpful. However, is it the holiday destination for you ? The hotel has the ambiance of a residential home for the elderly (even though there were some young families there). It is very quiet and will have had more popular days. We enjoyed the golf course but it does need some investment and parts of it are a bit tired. The club house is large but deserted. Apart from the hotel, the town of Vidago is a ghost town with derelict or empty hotels, shops and restaurants. There are a few very affordable restaurants/pizzerias but they are not always open. The restaurants we were in were friendly . The town centre is only a few minutes walk from the hotel . My understanding was that Vidago was a vibrant and popular spa town in the past but that it's best days are now long faded. The train stopped running to the town and people stopped coming. The hotels suffered first, then the stores and restaurants. As a tourist town it is largely abandoned save for the locals and there is nothing to see or do. I did not appreciate from reading the reviews before I booked it that there is no easily accessible public transport to the hotel. We came from Porto and doing the best we could we paid €120 for a taxi there and €170 for a private transfer to Porto Airport ( the hotel can organise this but for €350 one-way ). Note: we had two golf bags. As a couple we made a nice time of it and treated it as a pool holiday, but if you were going with friends/family you might struggle finding something to do. If you are looking for a group golf destination, I do not think this would suit. There is a high end tasting restaurant €165- €110 which I am sure is good. We didn't try it but we looked in - big room and not very busy. The other hotel restaurants' menus weren't really that inspiring- you can check them online. This hotel probably suits those who travel by car and only stay a few days for peace and quiet. We enjoyed our stay but I am not sure that I could recommend it because of its location - there isn't any relief from its old fashioned tranquillity. Agência BrandChoice, Agência/Consultor at Vidago Palace Hotel, responded to this review Thank you for sharing such a thoughtful review. We are delighted you enjoyed the hotel’s grace, amenities and especially the friendliness of our staff. We understand your comments about the quiet atmosphere, Vidago Palace is indeed a retreat for those seeking peace and history, though our team is always available to suggest activities in the region. We also value your feedback on the golf course, dining and transfer options, which we’ll share with our teams to keep improving. We’re glad you made the most of your stay, and we would be pleased to welcome you back, tailoring an experience more in line with what you value most.Kind regards,The Vidago Palace Hotel Team
