    Nice week at the Ambassador

    rating29 Jul 2023

The good: Great location, large and well appointed rooms, good breakfast, great staff, great price. The bad: Rooms could use a bit of TLC, several amenities closed (see below), poor WiFi.The ugly: None whatsoever. The hotel is best described as a downtown 4-star business hotel, with emphasis on "business". It is perfectly comparable with any other downtown hotel around the world, though not as luxurious as a more touristy 4-star hotel. On the outside the hotel presents itself as a well maintained Art Deco building, which is a nice contrast to the mostly run down Magheru Bvd. The lobby is old fashioned, with heavy wood and red plush overstuffed seating. It felt like from another era and we liked it. The receptionist looked like from another era too, formally dressed and overly polite. We liked that too. We booked a junior suite, which turned out to be a large room with two sections separated by the TV stand, one featuring a double bed and the other a sofa bed, a small table, and an armchair. We also liked that; it worked well for us (two adults and two seven year olds). The period look is not extended to the rooms, which have a relatively modern appearance. Sleep quality was very good both on the main bed and on the sofa. All the staff was absolutely great. The location is great, on the Magheru Bvd roughly mid-distance between Universitate and Piata Romana. We have no complaints here, though we personally wished it were closer to the latter. The street is extremely noisy, with heavy traffic at all hours and plenty of emergency vehicles. Noise was however very well controlled with the windows closed. The breakfast buffet (included in our rate) offers a reasonably wide selection, from eggs and sausages to croissants and cereal. The coffee machine is on a rather weak setting, but by no means horrible. It should be noted however that the selection is always the same.On the negative side, many amenities are not available purportedly due to the pandemic. Apparently nobody told them that the pandemic has been over for awhile. In particular the in-room mini-bar/fridge is off and has been off for awhile as it was incredibly dirty and smelly. The observation terrace on the 11th floor was also closed (to the disappointment of our kids), though we are not sure whether it was because of the pandemic or because it is unsafe (which would not be an unheard of thing in downtown Bucharest). The rooms are generally well maintained, but ours could have used a bit of TLC in minor matter such as the blackout curtains which were partially off their hooks and a few stains on the carpet.Overall we found all the negatives minor and we enjoyed our week at the Ambassador. The value for money was outstanding. We will definitely come back.

    Good hotel but restaurant closed.

A good hotel in a city centre location. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Parking very convenient a major plus in this location. Disappointed that after selecting this hotel because it had a restaurant to find it was not serving evening meals.

it is just ok, no hope for more

Our room was a little small but ok. There was no plug near the beds. Just below the tv. This is so bad for lazy people:) The hotel is located in the heart of Bucharest. This is the best way of it. Breakfast is almost fine. Not better your own breakfast at home. But the waiters are kind for bringing tea or coffee to your table.
