  ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Went for a work trip. Considering never leaving.

  I came to Riverside Sun for what was a work event. I am now seriously weighing up whether to inform my family that I have retired to a riverbank in Vanderbijlpark.Let me explain.The drive from Johannesburg takes around hour, which is already setting off alarm bells - nothing this restorative should be this close to the city. You arrive to rolling lawns, a wide, unhurried river and a General Manager named Taku along with his Deputy, Lebo who welcome you as though they have been genuinely looking forward to your arrival. You initially wonder whether or not this is true, but soon realise, it's an attitude all the staff have. Mind blown.The room was enormous. The view was the Vaal River just beyond immaculately kept gardens with little wooden bridges and shady spots to daydream under. The gardens were a true delight. I immediately felt my Jozi tension begin to melt.Speaking of dinner, we ate at a long table on the lawns under fairy lights after a sommelier walked us through a wine and chocolate pairing in the wine cellar which none of us expected to find in Gauteng. I did not ask questions. I simply accepted that this was my life now.Then there was the sunset cruise on a double-decker river boat. Then massages on the riverbank the following morning. Someone then casually mentioned that couples can arrange moonlit massages followed by dinner at a firepit on the river's edge, and I had to go and have a quiet moment to lament singledom.The food is exceptional. Chef Amina has been at this for 37 years and it shows in every plate. I had the salmon but stole a bite of someone's beef Wellington. I am still thinking about the food.Minor complaints: the drive home felt significantly longer than the drive there, for reasons I cannot entirely explain. Also, I am now incapable of looking at my own garden without feeling mildly disappointed.10/10. Book it. Tell your boss you need a long weekend. Tell no one about the wine cellar - it's a brilliantly kept secret.

  It was a beautiful stay.The service was professional.The breakfast was top-notch.The rooms were clean, and the bathroom was neat.It felt like a home away from home.

  We had an unexpected setback during our visit when two family members were injured while we were waiting for our rooms. It was a stressful moment, but the deputy manager, Lebo, handled everything with such professionalism, care, and genuine concern that it completely changed our experience for the better. She immediately called an ambulance and ensured we were comfortable! Lebo went above and beyond to assist us, ensuring we were comfortable and well-looked-after, and even upgraded us to make our stay easier during the circumstances as our rooms were a distance from my parents! Her compassion and quick action made a huge difference, and we are incredibly grateful.Despite the incident, the level of service we received—especially from Lebo—was outstanding. Riverside Sun is lucky to have someone like her on their team, and we’ll definitely return because of the exceptional care we received.

  I had booked this hotel to celebrate a birthday and I was bit appalled at the staff's attitude when I arrived. Southern Sun is all about friendly staff and good service, however, the staff at this hotel had a 'can't do' attitude which I was not impressed with. I had asked for a lighter/matches to light the birthday cake candle and the staff made it seem like it was impossible to get a lighter or even borrow one to light the candle. I did manage to speak to the manager and he did assist me with lighting the birthday candle though this was not the first incident where the staff didn't want to assist. I think overall this hotel should focus on training their everyday staff on how to be pleasant and friendly towards guests as we do pay to stay there and we also pay to receive good service as well. On another note Well Done to the chefs as the food was delicious.The breakfast was impressive as I appreciated the variety and the quality of food provided. I had ordered room service a few times and I was more than impressed with the food!

  Good but definitely declining standards

  We normally enjoy relaxing on the banks of the river and have done so many times. Upon this visit we noticed a decline in service. Which is normally impeccable. We stayed for 2 nights and on the 2nd night had the loudest neighbors in 3 different rooms who went to bed only around 3am. I don't think I will be coming back too soon after this experience.
