Not as good as last year

    rating25 Mar 2026

We stayed here last year and i gave it a 5 star review as we had an excellent stay, so good that we booked again for this year. The hotel is under new ownership and i feel standards have dropped since last year.Still the same - great location, 45 minutes from the airport. Close to Paarl and Franschoek with lots of wineries, restaurants nearby. Great golf course on site. Lovely spacious rooms. Choice of two good swimming pools. Sushi still great.Changes. Hotel now has a separate entrance from the rest of the resort and feels disconnected. Breakfast choices in main restaurant are menu only and narrower than before. No fruit available. Would prefer a buffet. Back’s restaurant in hotel area offers different choices but it is closing so staff were worried about their futures and will mean a longer walk for hotel guests.Biggest change is high speed buggies (see picture) driving at excessive speed in poorly lit paths to the hotel. Golf reception and golf staff at end of day were worst offenders. When raised with hotel staff they said they struggle to influence as a different organisation from the hotel. We had to jump out of the way on 4 occasions. I am concerned about safety for kids or those with reduced mobility.Lots of positives about the resort but hope the new management team can raise standards. Pearl Valley Hotel Hugo, General Manager at Pearl Valley Hotel, responded to this review Good day,Thank you very much for your detailed review. I am sorry to hear that it did not meet your expectation from the previous year, but very happy that you enjoyed the hotel rooms. As you mentioned, Back's restaurant has closed and we have opened up Pearl Bistro in its place, serving delicious food. We have taken note of your mention of the buggies speeding. The golf staff have been addressed regarding that issue. We do try to enforce the speed limit with other homeowners that have buggies as well. The golf club is currently undergoing an amazing renovation and we do hope to welcome you back to experience and even better Pearl Valley.Kind regards

Nothing not to like.Weren't here for the golf but it looked outstanding if you were. Luxury

    rating23 Oct 2025

Cannot fault the room . Spacious, clean with all necessary features- drinks , fridge , fresh milk. Massive balcony overlooking golf course . Buggy to take you to the clubhouse.Everything was high end . Only thing I would fault would be the breakfast which did not seem to live up to the rest of the establishment with limited choice

    A luxury stop

    rating30 Jul 2025

The fifth of 6 hotels on our South African tour, this was a touch of style and luxury. Our bedroom, the word doesn’t do it justice, was very comfortably equipped and spacious. The bed and pillows so, so relaxing. We had a view of a part of the golf course and majestic mountains in the middle distance. Food and service were excellent in each of the dining areas. All staff were helpful, courteous and cheerful. A big shout for the buggy drivers! Pearl Valley Hotel de Jongh, General Manager at Pearl Valley Hotel, responded to this review Dear Neil S,Thank you so much for your thoughtful and generous review. We’re absolutely delighted to hear that your stay at Pearl Valley Hotel was a highlight on your South African tour! It’s wonderful to know that you enjoyed the comfort and spaciousness of your suite, as well as the stunning views of the golf course and surrounding mountains. We take great pride in offering our guests a touch of luxury and relaxation, and your kind words reaffirm that commitment. We’re especially pleased to hear that the food, service, and hospitality stood out during your stay. Our team, including the ever-popular buggy drivers, will be thrilled to receive your compliments — they work hard to ensure each guest has a memorable experience.Thank you once again for choosing Pearl Valley Hotel. A not so favourable stay

    rating16 Apr 2025

Our group of 12 people arrived for a family wedding. We booked for three nights.. Lovely looking hotel, spacious rooms, BUT the hotel had no water for us to have a shower for over 6 hours after our arrival! Late the evening we had a warm shower 😅. The next day - we had the same issue. Luckily the wedding was not at the hotel, but at a neighbouring wine farm. A Municipal water issue apparently. Surely a 4 star hotel has something in place for international guests arriving from long haul flights, Spain and Boston USA? The Hotel Manager Mynhardt did not deal with the matter in a realistic way with his offers put on table. The booking lady Gail Roux ignored my emails and phone calls post our stay. Poor communication! We will not recommend this Hotel to anyone based on our stay and experience. Pearl Valley Hotel by Mantis, General Manager at Pearl Valley Hotel, responded to this review Dear Janene,Referencing numerous communications (via mail and one on one), one of which is from Gail’s on February 14, 2025, which clearly outlined the circumstances surrounding the Romero party’s stay at the hotel:Our GM, (Mynhardt de Jongh) personally met with Mr. Romero to discuss the situation; however, the interaction was unfortunately met with hostility and a lack of receptiveness. Despite this, he remained professional and presented the following options:1. The guests could wait for the restoration of the water supply, which was a matter entirely beyond our control.2. Alternatively, they could cancel the remainder of their reservation, in which case he offered a full refund for the unused portion of the stay and a 50% refund for the night of February 13, 2025.This offer was extended in good faith and was valid only on the day it was presented. The guests chose to remain at the hotel, thereby forfeiting the refund option. It’s also important to note that, contrary to our policies, they elected not to extend their daughter’s accommodation but instead had her stay in their room. While we genuinely regret the inconvenience caused, we must emphasize that the water supply issue was beyond the hotel's control. Nevertheless, we remain committed to providing all our guests with the highest standard of service, even in challenging circumstances.Given the above, and with all aspects now thoroughly addressed, we consider this matter resolved.RegardsMynhardt de JonghGeneral Manager
