Great place to stay in Mossel Bay

    rating04 Jun 2026

We spent 3 nights at the Protea Marriott during a trip along the Cape. Three things especially impressed us about the hotel. The first was the excellent on site restaurant which it should be noted is actually completely separate from the Protea. The food was delicious and we also enjoyed their great selection of wines. The second thing was that the staff at the Protea and at the restaurant were excellent. They were welcoming, and so helpful. Finally we also were very pleased with our rooms which were very comfortable and a nice view. If we returned back to Mossel Bay we would definitely stay here and we recommend it to other visitors.

    Fabulous relaxing stay

    rating31 Mar 2026

The wonderful Protea hotel is a small jewel in the Marriott portfolio With an amazing home made artisan gin welcome drink you’re made to feel immediately relaxed and in a small bubble of pleasure.Nothing is too much trouble for the lovely staff. Am leaving with much regret and with every intention of returning as soon as the remotest possibility exists. You must try the in-house gin tasting class, literally the finest gin I’ve ever tasted.Great restaurant, lovely views, come and let the world leave you behind…

    Really nice stay.

    rating07 Feb 2026

Had a lovely one night stop over here on our way back from the Garden Route to CT. Lovely small hotel which is tastefully decorated and well situated. Reception team really amazing upon checking in with nothing being too much trouble. Rooms nice, modern and clean. Pool and bar lovely with amazing views over the beach and bay. Restaurant was exceptional and the sea food some of the best we have tasted in a long time. They have a gin distillery on site which is worth exploring and tasting!Staff and service overall was very very good and we had a lovely stay here. Comfortable well positioned hotel

    rating27 Jan 2026

Well positioned hotel with views of the bay. Convenient to have Cafe Gannet on the premises for breakfast and dinner. We had a larger suite with a harbour view on two levels. It was spacious and cool but could be difficult for someone with reduced mobility as the stairs down to the bedroom are steep. Air con worked well. The kitchenette had a fridge and a microwave. Valthia Johnson, General Manager at Protea Hotel Mossel Bay, responded to this review Dear BooksearcherThank you for posting a review, we value your feedback back. Glad you enjoyed your stay in our Harbour suites and hope we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back soon.Kind regards,

Good choice for an overnight stay.

    rating25 Jan 2026

The Protea felt like a nice haven in Mossel Bay. It’s a nice environment with an excellent restaurant, gin distillery, outside sitting areas and a small swimming pool. The area around it is not so nice. Many of the shops and businesses nearby are closed down. As a result there are not many people walking around and when those that are asked us for money we didn’t feel comfortable. We decided just to eat in the hotel restaurant which wasn’t a problem as it is very good - reviewed separately. We had a duplex room over 2 floors which was well equipped with a nice balcony and open views.Breakfast was a disappointment. A large buffet of tired food and uninspiring choices. All the staff were excellent. Very friendly and helpful. It’s a good choice for an overnight stay but not somewhere i would stay for longer. Valthia Johnson, General Manager at Protea Hotel Mossel Bay, responded to this review Dear Boondoggler,We value your feedback. Thank for choosing to stay with us. I have shared your feedback with the team to discussed our breakfast options and how we can improve.I sincere hope we will have the pleasure of welcoming you back to explore what beautiful Mossel Bay has to offer, Blue flag beaches, sunset cruises, visit to the caves of Human origin but to name a few...
