Location

This hotel is set in the lush garden suburb of Newlands in Cape Town. It is perfectly positioned to provide easy access to all major highways and tourist attractions. It is a great base from which to explore numerous historic and scenic routes including the beautiful False Bay, the seasonal sighting points of Southern Right Whales and the quaint villages of Simonstown and Kalk Bay. Coastal cruises, basking on the pristine Cape beaches, sightseeing and shopping are all just a short trip away.

Facility

The hotel has 2 lifts and features 162 rooms. The friendly staff at the reception desk are happy to answer any questions. Amenities include a baggage storage service, a safe and a currency exchange service. Wireless internet access in public areas allows guests to stay connected. The hotel has a range of facilities for guests with disabilities. The hotel has wheelchair-accessible facilities. There are a number of shops as well. Guests arriving by car can park their vehicles in the car park. Rooms

    Great reception although my first engagement was not so good as they wanted full payment upfront for the days I will be there. I had planned to settle my bills on checkout as is usual practice. Had to make arrangements on a weekend to have the money sent to me from Kenya. Anyway I loved my stay there though booked on BB.     I just spent 3 days at a workshop at Southern Sun Newlands. Catering was great. Every evening sent in the bar looked after by fantastic barman Sifundo- thank you.     Poor Customer Service & WiFi Issue

    My stay at Southern Sun Newlands was unfortunately disappointing.On arrival on Wednesday, 4 March 2026, I was given the last room on the 3rd floor near the road. The noise from passing cars was very noticeable, making it difficult to rest. The room also did not have a working Wi-Fi connection. I would strongly advise guests to avoid this particular room if possible.I returned to reception and requested a room change. I was then given Room 320 on the same floor. This room was better and the internet worked. However, my luggage was not brought to the room as expected, and I had to follow up with staff before it was eventually delivered.I also experienced poor service at the hotel restaurant on the evening of Wednesday, 4 March. I had dinner with a colleague and we both ordered ribeye steak. My colleague’s meal arrived first, while I had to wait much longer for mine. When I asked why the meals were not served together, the waitress explained that it was because I had ordered my steak well done.     No Smart or Digital TV,Short shower,Slow Wifi.

    Its 2026 and they have an old analogue television that cant access the internet. I could not access youtube or netflix hence i did not enjoy the stay. Wifi that gets to the room is extremely slow. The shower was too short.If you are tall you will struggle to shower as the shower is above the bath tub.
