    Hotel needs maintainance and repairs

    rating03 Jun 2026

Don't stay in this hotel. The infrastructure is in a sorry state. The staff were great but helpless when the problem is maintenance. We booked a sea facing room as my wife is an artist but the first morning had to pack everything up and move into the back of the hotel due to multiple leaks, then we had repeated electricity outages. They said there was a generator but clearly would prefer the guests stay in the dark than use it.

Perfect location, room , meals and service ! Peaceful and beautifully appointed . Worth the higher price tag for a special sisters reunion. Enjoyed our morning walks and relaxing at the lodge after hiking at the spectacular Robberg Nature Reserve.

Fabulous views and lovely, friendly staff

    rating10 Apr 2026

We had originally planned to stay at the Hotel Plettenberg but they did not have any sea view rooms available, so accepted the travel company's recommendation of the Robberg Beach Lodge. We are glad we did. Whilst the hotel is not very grand or smart, the views are fantastic (we had a sea view room with a balcony) and the staff could not have been nicer or have done more to help us. It has a lovely, relaxed and informal atmosphere. Good breakfasts on the terrace, and the food is generally fine if you don't want to venture out in the evenings. Plettenberg itself is only 8/10 minutes away by taxi and is a very pleasant and attractive seaside town. We did have lunch at Plettenberg Hotel (very elegant) and also at The Lookout (fun and great seafood). But we enjoyed returning to Robberg Beach. And we even saw a pod of dolphins swimming up the bay from our balcony early one evening!

Disappointing stay – room did not match what was booked

    rating16 Feb 2026

Disappointing stay – room did not match what was bookedWe booked and prepaid a luxury garden-view room four months before arrival, at a rate of £350 (about ZAR8,000) per night, and even received an email confirming we had secured the best available rate.On arrival, however, we were allocated Room R8, which appeared to be one of the least desirable rooms on the property. From what we could see, most other rooms offered either a sea view or mountain/partial sea view. Our room, by contrast, had no real view at all, as a hedge sat directly in front of the balcony. The balcony itself overlooked a small parking area, delivery zone, and the staff entrance to the kitchen. When we queried this at reception, we were told the hotel was fully booked and no alternative room was available. This was surprising, as the website showed another, larger room with a better outlook available at a lower rate.Unfortunately, the room also fell short in terms of basic standards:The couch was dirty, with mismatched cushion coversThe kettle leaked badlyOnly one hand towel was provided for two guestsNo slippers or vanity set were available on arrivalTerrestrial TV did not work on the first nightCoffee (Black) at breakfast had residue floating in itOn the first afternoon, the noise from a delivery van and staff activity near the service entrance made it difficult to rest.Given the price point and the hotel’s five-star luxury positioning, we had certain expectations based on the website’s descriptions and photos. Sadly, the experience did not reflect that standard.Reception staff were polite and tried to help, but the only gestures offered were a bottle of inexpensive sparkling wine or a “romantic turndown,” which did not address the underlying issue. The duty manager said he would revert with a proposal but never followed up, and was not available when we checked out.We requested a ZAR3,000 partial refund to align the price with what was actually delivered, but received no response from management. As a result, we are now pursuing the matter under the South African Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008. The Robberg Hotel is in a special location

    rating24 Jan 2026

I won’t repeat what other reviewers have stated describing the hotel, but I will say the young staff couldn’t do enough to help us; at breakfast, around the pool or just sitting admiring the view, the staff were engaging and friendly. The location is the reason this hotel is a must to stay at. Why? This hotel is right near the beach and has amazing views of this magnificent, unspoilt and huge bay! I stayed 2 nights and couldn’t stop admiring the view . Plattenberg town is up a steep hill and took us about 45 minutes to walk to town; however, after the delicious breakfast I was happy for some exercise. If you have a car , well you’ll have no problem.Thank you to all the staff at The Robberg Hotel! 🙏🏻 Lion Roars, Owner at The Robberg Beach Lodge, responded to this review Hi there, Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We’re thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your stay and that our team made you feel welcome and well cared for. It’s wonderful that you were able to relax and take in the spectacular views of the bay. Your kind words mean a lot to us, and we hope to welcome you back to The Robberg Hotel for another memorable stay soon!Kind Regards, The team at Robberg Beach Lodge
