The new room additions with the swimming pool and Boma Bar are fantastic. The views are incredible! Perfect for a getaway, only an hour's drive outside of Cape Town. Wellington is known to have beautiful, warm weather. What I love about this accommodation is that you don't have to leave. They serve a wonderful buffet breakfast and have two restaurants, which you can visit for lunch and/or dinner. The staff are very friendly. They also have easy access rooms with a lift. Lovely stay

    rating18 Mar 2026

We had a stunning few days in the brand new section of the hotel. The best views especially sunset. Friendly staff that were ready to serve.A suggestion will be to have some diffusers in the room and bathroom to counteract the strong smell of cement VDC_Guesthouse, at Val Du Charron Wine & Leisure Estate, responded to this review Dear Amanda,Thank you so much for your lovely review and for choosing to stay with us.We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed a few stunning days with us, especially in our brand-new section. Owners get your head out of the sand!!!!!

The Good. Stunning location. Very friendly staff. Great pool. The BadThere are no staff on site between 9.30pm - 7am. What if there is an emergency? What if you arrive late? You can't access your room.I saw no security in the 5 days we were there, remember we are in South Africa. No rooms have a telephone, if you need to contact reception you have to go there.Breakfast very basic, I actually went and bought some Corn flakes from the supermarket. Buffet it is not.TV's only show streaming services ie: Netflix Youtube The UglyThe day before we were due to fly home, I tried to open the safe was not able to.3 members of staff tried with no success. We had to wait 4.5 hours for an engineer to come and drill the lock, as all our money and cards were in there, our last day was lostHad this occurred the following day, we would have missed our flight. As the engineer tried to access the safe he realised THE SAFE WAS NOT EVEN BOLTED TO THE WALL HE LIFTED IT OUTWhat a complete jokeDO NOT come here it will ruin your holiday Vdc Wines, General Manager at Val Du Charron Wine & Leisure Estate, responded to this review Dear andrewwelsh,Thank you for taking the time to provide such detailed feedback regarding your stay at Val du Charron Wine and Leisure Estate. We are deeply sorry to hear that your experience was so distressing and fell far short of the standards we aim to deliver. While we appreciate your positive comments regarding our location, staff friendliness, and pool, it is clear that the serious issues you encountered overshadowed your stay. The lack of 24-hour staffing and on-site security, combined with no direct means of contacting reception from rooms, is a major concern. Your point about potential emergencies and late arrivals is completely valid, and we recognise that these are basic expectations for guest safety and convenience. We are especially alarmed by the situation with the in-room safe. Waiting 4.5 hours for an engineer, and then discovering the safe was not properly secured, is unacceptable. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience, stress, and lost time this caused, particularly on the final day of your trip. Immediate action is being taken to review and correct our safety and operational protocols to prevent anything like this from happening again.Regarding breakfast, room amenities, and in-room communication, your observations highlight areas where we need to improve clarity in what we provide versus what guests expect.Your feedback has been escalated to senior management, and we are committed to addressing every issue you raised. While we understand your disappointment and that your experience was extremely frustrating, please know that your concerns will lead to urgent improvements in safety, service, and facilities. We apologise sincerely for the impact on your holiday and appreciate you bringing these matters to our attention.Kind regards,

    Such a disappointment

    rating04 Feb 2026

Such a disappointment! Beautiful location with fabulous view. Charming server but shocking food. My Prawn and Avocado starter was inedible. The prawns were warm and tough and the avocado was hard (Unripe). The Manager (apparently his 1st day) explained the prawns had been frozen (and presumably thawed with warm/hot water) and the problem with the avocado had something to do with the avocado supplier! He was very polite and embarrassed. Instead of a Main I chose Baked Camembert with toasted Crostini. The Camembert was lovely but the Crostini turned out to be toasted bread - not Crostini. My husband’s starter was fine and the Venison he had for his main was very tasty - but the chips were inedible (practically uncooked) and the onion rings were also very disappointing. Us two and one other couple were the only customers. Vdc Wines, General Manager at Val Du Charron Wine & Leisure Estate, responded to this review Dear annecads,Thank you for taking the time to share your experience at The Grillroom at Val du Charron Wine and Leisure Estate. We are truly sorry that your dining experience fell so far below expectations, particularly given the beautiful setting and the attentive service you received. Your detailed feedback regarding the starters and mains is very concerning. Warm, tough prawns and unripe avocado are unacceptable, and the issue with the crostini and sides such as chips and onion rings clearly does not meet the standard we strive to deliver. While we are pleased that some elements, like the baked Camembert and the venison, were enjoyable, it is evident that inconsistency in execution negatively affected your overall experience. We also understand how frustrating it must have been when the explanations given — such as the thawing of prawns or supplier issues — did not adequately address the disappointment. Please be assured that your feedback has been shared with our kitchen and management teams for immediate review. We are committed to retraining and reviewing our processes to ensure ingredients are properly handled, dishes are consistently prepared, and every guest receives the quality they expect. We sincerely apologise for letting you down and for the disappointing meal, especially when there were so few guests in the restaurant. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us improve and avoid a repeat of this experience.Kind regards,
