    exit 5, dongdaemun shopping

    rating03 Jan 2019

highly recommended due to its proximity to the train station (exit 5 one minute walk)... dongdaemun restos are a few meters walk, as well as the dongdaemun fashion/ shopping malls (just cross the river)... bus station to and from the airport are just 2 blocks away... plenty of convenient stores (7-11s) nearby... will definitely be back (location and price )...

    Winter Seoul

    rating28 Dec 2017

The room is quite small. 1st time experience DIY breakfast everyday. Towels already old and torn and yet they still serve it to the guest. No elevator luckily we are only at 2nd floor. Wifi very good. Make up room service bad.

Taper your Expectations. Location is the Reason for 1 Extra Star

    rating04 Aug 2017

I travelled with my wife and parents to Seoul on 25-28 May 2017, and this hotel was booked through a travel agent. Frankly, I was not expecting much based on earlier reviews and for most part, they were spot on.Room: Nothing great to say here. It was simple and acceptable, but nothing luxurious about it. Squarish in design, the room was fairly spacious. The bathroom was also fairly spacious, but don't expect a bathtub or something. With all due respect though, while there seemed to be some refurbishment done, the hotel has definitely seen better days. Room Facilities: Nothing much to say here either. Shower foam and shampoo are provided in dispenser bottles. Just that do remember to bring your own toothbrush and toothpaste. One plus here is that they do provide rubber slippers, which are less flimsy than those disposable paper slippers provided in most hotels. I don't think you could bring those home though. Wifi signal was generally acceptable.Facilities: No breakfast provided and there is no eatery within the hotel. There's complimentary coffee though. There is a simple dining area right in front of the hotel reception desk. Nothing much else to talk about here, except maybe for a small thing. There is the local metro/subway network map on one of the dining tables, but the station names are in chinese, which was really a bummer. I suppose there are many guests from China, hence this. It would have been better if there was another map showing the English words of each metro station, to aid travellers who are more proficient in English.Service: Generally the staff were fairly helpful and assisted us in our queries for directions and recommendations for food and shopping as best as they could. After all, English is not their first language. Nonetheless, we could generally understand what they were communicating to us.Transportation: As mentioned in many reviews earlier, the dongdaemun metro entrance is just outside the hotel. There's a bus stop outside as well but we didn't attempt to travel the city using that avenue. Must Do Items: Well, there is probably more to talk about here. As mentioned also in earlier reviews, there's plenty of food right outside the hotel. You will never be hungry anytime of the day as a number of outlets are open for 24 hours. In particular, I would like to talk about 3 eating places within the vicinity of the hotel.Firstly, there is a 24 hour bbq place opposite the main road. Can't remember the name as its in Korean. Grilling is done on a hot plate and the condiments like kimchi are free flow. Many locals frequent this place as well. Do try their premium pork slice with "3 layers" of fats. Sinfully good.Next, there's a 24 hour Korean fried chicken outlet, Kyochon Chicken, along the main road on the same side as the hotel. It's less than 5 mins on foot on the left side as you exit the hotel and just cross a small lane for vehicles. This outlet is located above the KFC. I had one of the best fried chicken ever in my life. Korean farm chickens are free range, and their chickens tend to be smaller than the typical frozen chickens in most parts of the world. If you can take the heat, the spicy option is definitely the one for you. Else, the honey chicken is also an awesome alternative. Do note that the waiting time is approximately 40 mins, as they batter and fry each chicken from scratch. It was so good that I had fried chicken for breakfast on the last day there.Lastly, I would like to recommend a typical Korean eatery. It is located just before crossing the small lane to Kyochon. I had meals at a few of such eateries and I thought this was the best of all. Dishes like tofu stew, cold buckwheat noodles and bimimbap were just satisfying. Did I also mention the wonderful free flow kimchi? Seriously, kimchi there tastes really good wherever you go. Miles ahead of any kimchi you can find in Singapore, which is borderline acceptable to downright horrible. To sum it up, I recommend this place for people on a budget who have no intention to spend much time in the hotel, other than to catch a few hours of sleep, and not expect anything more. Dongdaemun is a district where shops open till 4.30am, hence I would recommend any traveller to stay in its vicinity. Explore other parts of the city in the day, and after dinner, conquer the Dongdaemun shopping area without having to worry about how to get back to the hotel upon the cessation of Metro services for the day.

    location beats all!

    rating05 Nov 2016

We stayed for 4 nights recently. Indeed it is within minutes to Dongdaemun station exit 5, specifically Line 1, if using Line 4 one has to walk much further within the station. We were driven here as part of package so no comment on AREX nor Airport Bus. Unfortunately we did not manage to get Level 1 room so as to lug luggage upstairs. The room is equipped with a kettle, a mini refrigerator, a LG TV with lots of tv channels. There is also a microwave oven at Level 1 recept area which you can use to warm up your food, very useful in cool weathers! As other editors mentioned they do not make up your room daily nor replenished toiletries just clearing the rubbish. Have to request for them to replace the soiled towelsIt is centrally located as the Dongdaemun shopping area is around 10 minutes walk away, and 5 minutes you reached the famed Dongdaemun Gate! Very beautifully lit up at night.. There are many small eateries (Fukuoka’s yatai.?) along the stretch road in front of the hotel. A bit tough to look for more westernised meal, only 1 Lotteria and another KFC at both ends of the road. There is a Korean fried chicken store just infront Front desk staff is friendly and helpful throughout during our stay, especially a Mr Hong. However they probably understand/speak Mandarin more than English... Wifi is free and coverage good. The hotel looks more like a “motel-hostel” instead...We will still probably consider staying here . :>>

    Very good location

The hotel is very close to the Dongdaemun shopping belt with a subway station just outside the hotel. Most of the front desk staff were friendly and helpful and could speak some English or Mandarin. Breakfast choice was very limited (toast, cereal and porridge) but not a big issue as there were many eateries nearby. There is no lift in the building, so best to get a ground floor room if you have lots of luggage.
