A refuge for calm reflection
04 Jul 2026
Some places provide a bed for the night. Others quietly become a home for the heart.Hotel Áncora in Fisterra is one of those rare places. Run by three generations of the same family, it has something that no luxury hotel can buy or manufacture: genuine warmth, kindness and a feeling that every guest truly matters. In many ways, they do hospitality better than many grand five-star hotels. The hotel is spotlessly clean, the breakfasts are fresh and generous, and there is an unmistakable atmosphere of calm and happiness that seems to linger in every corner. After a day of reflection or walking, returning here feels like coming home.As an unexpected bonus, I also had the pleasure of meeting the wonderful German author Manolo Link—my own modern-day Rumi—and his lovely partner, Jean Callanan. Conversations like these somehow belonged in a place like Hotel Áncora, where strangers are welcomed like old friends.Thank you for making my stay in Fisterra so memorable. I arrived as a guest and left feeling like I had been part of your family, if only for a little while.

Disgusting scammers

Really bad experience. The hotel charged me twice and now they are just ignoring my messages and emails. I have provided all the screenshots and bank statements, but no reaction from their side. They are just scammers. The room was super small, no ventilation, really bad chemical smell. The breakfast was poor, the cup was dirty, they did not even wash the dishes properly.

Not a pleasant experience
11 Apr 2025
Booked 3 rooms for 3 couples , on arrival informed that only two rooms available so 2 couples had to share one room. Although this room had a seperate lounge area with two single beds it had no windows so no view or proper ventilation. Plaster falling off walls. Totally unacceptable accomodation for 2 people let alone 4 ! .Offered free dinner for all 6 people as a goodwill gesture.Starter and bread was placed on table before we arrived. This was not covered and open to the flies seen buzzing around.Soup and main course of fish and potato not very enjoyable.Very dark corridors with lights sensors turning off lights before reaching end of corridors. No fire safety instructions seen in rooms or nearby corridoorsOverall not a very pleasant experience.
