  Absolutely fabulous staff

  16 Aug 2026

Arrived late because of the flight and was treated like a member of the family. Every person working in reception was great, intelligent, warm and humane but special thanks to Pillar for her advice. Very clean, comfortable and surprisingly quiet rooms. Good breakfast. Very good value for money. As the hotel is next to El Cortes Inglese, one could escape the August heat anytime. Very convenient for the airport, but obviously not as near to the Santiago cathedral. Very good neighbourhood of Rosalinda to see the locals.

A nice hotel, but not quite Melià standard

  22 May 2026

Given that the main attraction in Santiago de Compostella is the cathedral, the hotel is located approximately 40 minutes walk away. In terms of local restaurants, you are limited to the hotel or the cafe in el Corte Ingles. The hotel is clean and modern with a comprehensive buffet breakfast and nice casual bar with reasonable prices (for a hotel). The room was spacious and clean with a comfortable bed. The bathroom was clean and functional, however it was lacking in some amenities expected of a Melia branded hotel. Equally, I was disappointed there were no coffee/tea making facilities in the room. The room does have excellent sound proofing.

Would not rate it as 4 star

  18 Apr 2026

Well outside the old town area but 4min  to large shopping mall with grocery store. Initially given a room on floor 5. After about half an hour the power in our room & adjacent  rooms went out. After about 2hrs we were changed to a room on floor 6. The toilet flush in the new room was not very strong. The overhead rain shower didn't work or was not connected. The shower screen needs to be at least 20cm longer to prevent a stream of water flowing out of the shower area. Breakfast was good but no fried eggs or eggs to order. Weeding anniversary in twin beds

  13 Apr 2026

Me and my wife stayed at Santiago Plaza Affiliated by Meliá in Santiago de Compostela, the past 10th of Abril for our anniversary.I booked a room with a double bed, Although I understand it was "subject to availability," the hotel failed to inform me at any time, even at check-in that they were giving me twin beds instead.More importantly, the hotel staff confirmed they had Superior rooms with double beds available, but they refuse to move me into one unless I pay an extra fee, despite the communication failure on their part.Imagine spending your weeding anniversary in twin beds... We'll never go there again

  Great hotel, far flung location

  24 Oct 2025

The Santiago Plaza Hotel (by Melia) is a modern, posh hotel with all the amenities: restaurant and bar, spacious and very comfortable rooms (including bathrooms that feature granite floors and sink tops), complemented by very helpful staff. WIFI was rock solid. So why only four stars? The property is near absolutely nothing a tourist wants. The restaurant hours are limited; other than that, I could find only an express market to find food at night. The rail / bus stations are a good 15-minute walk down a steep hill; the old city is a good 30 minutes away, down one hill and up another. That’s an hour round-trip walk to the sights. Why not just take an Uber into town? There are no ride-sharing services available in Santiago de Compostela. The tourist office blames “international companies” who have chosen not to do business in this “little town.” I’m calling BS on that one. Certainly, the town collects medallion revenue from the taxis. With the resulting monopoly, supply of pricy taxi rides are tight, I found availability to hail or even get one from a taxi stand is limited. I found this situation all over Spain. There’s a way you can take a bus part of the way from the Plaza Hotel; I never got the chance to figure that out.If you’re young, are light on luggage and don’t mind the long walks, the Santiago Plaza might suit you. That description did not fit this traveler. Hotel Santiago Plaza, Guest Services / Front Office at Hotel Santiago Plaza Affiliated by Melia, responded to this review Dear Joooolesm ; Thank you very much for choosing our Hotel to stay during your visit to Santiago de Compostela. As you have seen we are about 25 minutes walk from the Obradoiro square, but we have public transport stop just 50m from the Hotel. The train and bus stations are close together and are less than a 10-minute walk away. The hotel is located a five-minute walk from the El Corte Inglés shopping center, where you can find places to eat and a large supermarket. We also thank you for your rating and comments.
