    Poor hotel

    rating04 Mar 2026

We have booked long stay rooms with multiple colleagues from okt 2025 till March 2026. I arrived Dec 1st 2025 and still in this outdated hotel. Never book rooms 220, 222 or 224 because you can’t open the window due to the kitchen exhaust which blows straight into your room when the wind is coming from the southwest and when the wind direction is ok you still can’t open the window due to the A/C unit on top of the lower roof. When you enter the hotel you instantly smell the restaurant, the reception is located in a corner with only a low table (no counter). Most of the staff doens’t speak English very well and the cleaning staff removes your room card when you leave it on the table and moves your personal belongings. The long stay room is not more than a standard room. You can use a kitchen which was before a room. Disadvantage of a long stay room is that only once a week cleaning will be done. The hotel is dirty, debris on the floor and nobody picks it up, Standard lighting issues in the hallway and restaurant. For unknown reason the lights go out or blinking all the time. When you share a complaint with the reception, they promise that it will be solved quickly but don’t be surprised at it takes a couple of days to be solved. You have to remind them. The rooms are outdated, old and carpet with stains but also stains in the matras. Very dirty windows, no cleaning during my 3 month stay. The only positive point I have are the 2 very nice ladies who are the managers. They really try to make our stay pleasant.

Grimy, needs a complete renovation - don’t get off the tram if you are passing by….save yourself!

Stayed at the hotel for only 1 night at the end of August 2025 - I’m glad it was only 1!! Arrived with 72 year old mum and 2 children - advised our room was on the first floor and lift was broken, took 2 rooms on the ground floor. Rather grimy, years old carpet (wouldn’t recommend bare feet!), no idea what the was on the walls! Single glazing, no ideal for busy road and planes…cheap thin towels. Very strong chemical in cleaning products (probably mask the musty smell of carpet). I did check out the 1st floor room and it wasn’t any better.Staff not particularly welcoming and frankly quite rude. Couldn’t even be bothered to help prebook a taxi for us to travel to the airport. On the good side you can walk to some ok restaurants or the tram stop is right outside so you can get away from the grime.Due to weather we didn’t try outside but looking from the windows it didn’t appear particularly well kept or look inviting!

I was very disappointed with the questionable hygiene; even with the coffee offered at reception, I won’t return.

Encontramos pêlos na cama, um gafanhoto na casa de banho e objectos de outros hóspedes no chão perto da cama.We found hair in the bed, a grasshopper in the bathroom, and items from previous guests on the floor near the bed.Nous avons trouvé des poils dans le lit, une sauterelle dans la salle de bain et des objets laissés par d’autres clients par terre près du lit.

Some good things, good location near airport and transport, most staff helpful, nice landscaping and gardens. However booked a room for 4 adults, first night pull out bed broke - turns out it was missing numerous slats, we moved room overnight (by a fairly grumpy staff member) but same thing happened again in new room which again had several slats missing. Got fixed next day by maintenance guy who turned up with a load of slats as if this happens often. Other than that decent stay in hotel part. Restaurant not great, first night asked for a carafe of water (in French along with making a drinks order) about 5 times and it never came and I got given a main that turns out wasn't what I ordered as the order appeared 5 mins later. next night starters and mains arrived all at the same time and the waitress wasn't remotely interested in taking them away, really quite stroppy. The restaurant is an independent one -Hippopotamus. Pool and bar good

    Not great

    rating10 Aug 2024

We stayed at Novotel Bordeaux for two nights before continuing our journey to the coast. While our room was adequate for a short stay, it was a bit dated and small for our family of four. Unfortunately, our dining experiences were disappointing. The service in the restaurant was very poor. We ordered drinks, but the beer was missing. Despite following up, it was never brought to us. The children's desserts also did not arrive, even after asking twice. Breakfast the next day was equally subpar: there were no plates, limited choices, and only one waitress struggling to manage everything. The system was very unorganised. In the afternoon, we decided to relax by the pool. However, the service at the poolside kiosk was lacking as the attendant frequently disappeared for long periods, making it difficult to get drinks. Additionally, the receptionists were often unavailable when we needed assistance. On the positive side, the hotel's location is excellent, with easy tram access into Bordeaux, proximity to the airport, and enjoyable cocktails (when they eventually arrived).Overall, while the location and amenities are good, the service needs significant improvement to meet 4 star expectations. martinho paula, Other at Novotel Bordeaux Merignac Hotel, responded to this review Hi,Thank you for taking the time to share your experience following your stay at Novotel Bordeaux. We sincerely apologize that certain aspects of your visit did not meet your expectations, particularly regarding the service in our restaurant and at the poolside kiosk.
