This hotel is situated in the heart of Roquetas de Mar, in a lively area with shopping and entertainment, just a few steps from the beach. It is an ideal starting point for beach holidaymakers or families who would like to get to know the area better.

Facility

The hotel has 383 non-smoking rooms, which are located on 14 storeys and are reachable by 5 lifts. The friendly staff at the reception desk are happy to answer any questions. A baggage storage service, a car hire service, a transfer service, an alarm call service, a laundry service and 4 conference rooms are available. Wireless internet access is provided in public areas. A garden provides extra space for rest and relaxation in the open air. A garage is available for parking (for a fee).

Rooms

Rooms are equipped with air conditioning. A balcony or terrace is among the standard amenities in the rooms. Children's beds can be requested for younger guests. For those who wish to stay active while on holiday, the hotel offers bocce. Guests can enjoy a wide range of indoor sports, including a gym, table tennis, billiards, darts and table football. After a long day, guests can recharge in the wellness area, which offers a solarium or, for a fee, a spa and massage treatments. In addition, massage treatments are offered by third-party operators. Guests of all ages have the opportunity to enjoy a fun entertainment programme.

Meals

The hotel includes a restaurant and a bar. Catering options include bed and breakfast, half board, full board and all-inclusive. A continental breakfast buffet provides many delicious reasons to rise and shine. At lunch and dinner, guests serve themselves at the buffet.     Dog Friendly? A disappointing experience

    We have just returned from the Hotel Moon Dreams Portomango, Aguadulce where we had booked a 7-night stay with full board, including wine and water.The hotel was advertised as being dog-friendly, so having read the terms & conditions online, we decided that this would be the perfect place to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary and spend a week by the sea with our little dog. We also emailed the hotel in advance to remind them that we required a pet friendly room, and to ensure that everything would go smoothly on our arrival. We received a reply stating that our dog would indeed be very welcome but there would be a charge of €12 per day plus an additional non-refundable charge of €25, a total of €109 for our 7-night stay. We were expecting a small surcharge but this seemed unduly excessive; an unwelcome surprise, and there was worse to come.Although dogs are allowed in the rooms (and we were given the small pet gift pack, also mentioned on the website, we had to request it on day 3), they are totally excluded from all public areas, including the restaurant, bar and the outside terrace. As this was not explained on the website, we had wrongly assumed there might be a designated area where owners could eat or drink with their pets at their feet. We have never encountered such intolerance in any other pet friendly hotel we have visited. This resulted in us not being able to enjoy any of the food or drink that we had paid for, or even have a beer on the outside terrace. It was suggested by the receptionist that we leave the dog alone in the room and go for meals without her. However, we felt this would be distressing for her in an unfamiliar environment, and we had to sign a disclaimer on checking in, that, if she barked while we were out, we would be required to leave the hotel immediately. We were also told that bringing food from the restaurant to our room was strictly forbidden. Packed lunches were also unavailable, even for full board guests. In the end we had no choice other than to eat all our meals in nearby restaurants every day, an option that almost doubled the cost of our holiday and left us feeling extremely disappointed. Obviously, the nightly entertainment provided by the hotel was also out of bounds for us.The location of the hotel is perfect, right by the beach with most rooms facing the sea, and higher floors enjoying unrestricted views. Everywhere appeared to be clean although some parts looked a little worse for wear. Our room was reasonably spacious but felt in need of some refurbishment, especially the floor covering which was punctured and cracked in several places. The bathroom was not too bad, but would also benefit from some maintenance. Room facilities include TV, fridge, hair-dryer and a safe – surprisingly at no extra charge. Each room has a sea facing balcony with table and chairs. Car parking is offered at €15 per night but we found plenty of unrestricted parking in the surrounding streets.We are unable to comment on the food or drink, as the “dog-friendly” policy precluded us from enjoying any of the restaurant and bar facilities. In summary, the hotel itself was OK (3 star in our opinion and definitely not dog friendly), the location is excellent, the staff were always polite, but we remain disillusioned with our wedding anniversary trip, and were very pleased to be home again.     Pleasantly Surprised

    I was worried by all the negative reviews so was pleasantly surprised. The hotel is perfectly situated, I had a sea view and could hear the waves from my balcony on the 11th floor.The staff were all hard working and they made everything work well. It is a 15-20 minute walk to the harbour which is peaceful in the daytime. Ten minute walk to the buses which run regularly to Almeria, well worth a visit for €1.40 each way.No complaints on the food, it is mass catering not fine dining but certainly enough choice for a buffet. The building is massive and if some things are showing their age well so what? Everything worked, everything was clean and the showers were powerful. The pool area wasn't busy at all, so they weren't all open but they were regularly checked and kept perfectly clean.I can't really comment on the entertainment, not my scene, but those that were involved seemed to enjoy it.The guests were mainly Spanish so the staff don't go out of their way for you just because you're British, get over it, this is Andalusia!I went off to Granada for a couple of days and this is a good base to make that trip from by public transport.     don’t go here not one person speaks english and none of the photos are the same it’s quite clearly a 3 start hotel i’ve never known a pool to open at 11:00 am so you sit around waiting feeling sorry for yourself not impressed at all luckily i speak a bit of spanish as my partner does not otherwise we would have struggled massively!     Another great stay at the Portomagno. It has been taken over (yet again) by a different brand but almost the same quality. A few minor savings have been made, jams and honey at breakfast now via a pump, no choice of different lakes of bread, just sliced or French bread, I do miss the lovely brown fresh loaves , but still brilliant for the money. The cafe/ bar on the reception floor closed at 9 , (which was new), so if you want coffee or a drink after dinner, you have to go downstairs and struggle upstairs with your drink, they need to revert to later closing time. Staff exceptional as always, despite the fact we spoke little Spanish we managed to get everything we needed including an ambulance at 3am. For the money we wouldn’t go anywhere else.     Avoid at all costs

    Left 2 weeks ago, Steer clear from this hotel if your English, none of the staff with be polite to you, especially the lifeguard round the pool, Spanish guests can do what they want, English guests just get glared at. Be prepared for the Spanish guests to push in front of you at meal times as they also have no respect, food choices are diabolical and never hot. Never again will I stay at this hotel, came with 6 members of my family and we've all said the same.
