Very disappointing!

VERY DISAPPOINTING! This was , possibly, a 4 star hotel in 1970, but has not improved since!1. The bathroom decor is tragic , no shampoo/conditioner/body lotion, just 1970s industrial soap to match the tiles and shower head2. Website pictures not true reflection of the room3. DEFINITELY not beachfront, unless a hurricane wipes out the 4 lanes of traffic outside4. Told only after payment that restaurant not open at night and our meal is at a bar around the corner, deceitful.5. Reception staff disinterested, no advice on evening meal, no umbrella or recommendations on sightseeing.AVOID !!!

Skip this horrible excuse for a hotel

We decided to spend the weekend in Gijon to escape the summer heat in Madrid. We were looking for a beachfront hotel. Príncipe de Asturias advertised itself as a high quality hotel with fantastic beachfront viewsOur experience was anything but fantastic. Its location at the far side of the boardwalk was seedy at best. The hotel was old and very dated. The hallways dark with smells of cigarettes in this smoke free hotelThe room itself was small with a very old bathroom. The bed was lumpy and uncomfortable. There was one window that opened partiallyThe real nightmare began when we came back after an evening walkfor our first night in the room. It was warm and there was a lot of noise in the street mostly from a dance bar next door We closed the window only to find that the air conditioner didn't work. It became unbearably warm in the room so we were forced to open the window but the dance music was so loud even on the 6th floor that we were forced to use our bulky headphones to block the noise and try to sleep. Needless to say we did t sleep and the music went on untill 5 amAfter a sleepless night we confronted the receptionist who admitted that the air conditioner had be broken for weeks. They never disclosed this to us She offered us use of a fanWe decided to check out immediately and find another hotelPríncipe De Asturias is a disaster of a hotel. Don't waste your money

Good location, no air conditioning.

Good location opposite the promenade and great views from the ninth floor breakfast room. HOWEVER no air conditioning throughout the entire hotel despite controls on the wall in the bedrooms. Not due to be repaired any time soon according to the hotel. (Previous reviewers have also mentioned this).Not acceptable for a supposedly 4 star hotel during hot weather. Rather a 3 star than a 4 star hotel

From me; 2 out of 5 is not the same as 2 out of 5 stars.I give this 2 out of 5 because I had expectations to a 4-star hotel, which it says on the internet.The hotel’s safe and AC did not work during our time at the hotel. The breakfast was not worth a 4 star as they were out of food and glasses much of the time.However, great location! Not a disaster but rather disappointed

For sure, this is not a 4* hotel. Room was nice with great views but soundproof was dreadful and we could hear the sound of TVs and people talking in adjascent rooms.Breakfast was average. Selection was limited and products were low quality. And no service at all.The best at this hotel was the woman on duty at front desk in the morning during the week end we stayed. She certainly knows what customer service is about. Many thanks again to her for such kindness and thoughtfulness.
